Do you know when you present to emergency unit or picked by ambulance, you have a choice of which specialist looks after you?

Most patients are told who is on call and sent to that specialist.
Are u comfortable with that Dr? Can you discuss your issues with him/her?

You have a choice and a right.

I have noticed patients with emergency injuries from areas like Alice, Peddie, Butterworth etc, get delayed treatment of their fractures but they are on medical aid.

Do you know that you can get an ambulance from your local hospital and transfer you to a private sector same day and have your injury treated as soon as possible.

Even if your medical aid funds are deplete, emergencies are still funded with no co-payments.

Not even one physio there!. Lots and lots of Butterworth,Dutywa, Centane, Ngqamakhwe patients coming to East London for Orthopaedic Services but unable to access private physio locally!

People of South Africa need to be very careful of the Medical aid scam that no one is willing to discuss. Medical Aid vs Medical Insurance?
Private medical cover? What does it mean? Are you covered for private GP or private specialist or private hospital ? Physio, orthotist, where does it end?
What emergency cover are they covering?
PMBs- never discussed with patients, patients pay shortfalls on PMBs, why? Do they knw.?
But they take contributions every week.
Whats the point of medical cover that covers one part of treatment but not the other.
How is a patient covered to see a surgeon but not covered for the surgery, post op rehabilitation, certain medications?
Why not just save your money and qeue in govt hospital( Yes, they have their big flaws- but they dont promise you heaven & earth ) . We should know exactly what benefits we get from what we sign for.
Its sad to see our people not getting the help they need but they pay monthly to medical schemes.

Definately in S.A, its a must have bcoz we all know the deficiency of our state resources.
But we also have a duty to protect our patients from abuse by the schemes.
Patient told medical cover for crutches when admitted only. Really??
As much as we debate Eskom, ANC, etc- the issue of medical schemes needs real attention.
They arent really protecting the patients as they always claim to be.

Ever wondered why most specialists want cash payment for consults?
Im sure the schemes inform patients you shouldnt pay a DSP right?
Too much redtape.
