On the 22nd of November, the Frere Hospital Pharmacy hosted its annual Pharmacist Intern Research day. A day that showcases the hard work that the interns dedicate toward their research and outreach projects during the year.
The event was attended by many important stakeholders and recommendations from these projects are vital and often implemented to improve the quality of the pharmaceutical service we provide.

Congratulations to our 8 interns on doing a stirling job.

The Day has arrived...today is our Annual Frere Hospital Pharmacy Intern Research Day, where we celebrate the newest members of our profession as they come to the end of the training year. They will showcase their research and outreach projects and put on display the difference that they have made to their patient's lives or in the profession.
We wish them all the best today and are proud of their achievements thus far.

One of the main events for the pharmacy is the celebration of our Pharmacy Month. Besides, going out into the community, it is during this month that we celebrate ourselves and all the hard work we put in. This year, the Frere Hospital Pharmacy Intern team ran a pharmacy competition, 'The intervention Catcher of the month', and staff went all out for the competition.

The winning team was the oncology pharmacy department, who pushed to ensure that all prescriptions dispensed from the oncology pharmacy were error free and that patients recieved the best pharmaceutical care possible.

Well done to the unit manager, Pharmacist Dianne Paton and her team, Kovin Pillay (Pharmacist), Elizabeth Birch (PA) and Tyrique Kleinhans (PA). We applaud you.

Our Frere Hospital Pharmacy Interns and their supervisor, spent some time performing much needed TB screening in the community, followed by assisting in the Kathleen Groep soup kitchen .

Remember speak to your pharmacist if you have any health concerns or can't get to a doctor.

Pharmacy month has really been keeping us busier than usual. Group 2 of our Pharmacy Interns, Zuziphe Sobuwa, Musau Kalonji, Unathi Makubalo and Nish*thaben Vyas presented a pharmacy career expo to grade 9 and 10 learners at John Bisseker Secondary School We were warmly recieved at the school and definitely left making a very positive impact on the learners. Thank you to the team.

In celebration of pharmacy month, the interns are tasked to come up with an outreach project.

This year, group 1 of the interns (Camille Harmse, Okuhle Mpaka, Achuma Yawa and Siphumeze Jikijela) decided to host a pharmacist career expo, educating the learners of Vulamazibuko High School (Mdantsane, EL) on what are pharmacists, the subjects and grades needed, the role of a hospital pharmacist and all other sectors of pharmacy.

The learners were also educated on the importance of vaccinations and taking medication and what medicines do the body. Valuable and detailed discussions were held after the session and I'm sure we were able to contribute positively to the learners.

Thank you to the school for hosting us and giving the team such a warm welcome. 😀
