If you work in the medical field, you would know that only really special, patient and thoughtful people are Occupational Therapists.

We are blessed to have one in our team who thinks of us in so many ways.
She encourages us to have mini breaks, to get our hands dirty, to play more and may even bribe us with baked goods to help her.
It’s okay, we accept.

This is a very under researched and under-practiced area in physiotherapy and Ash is making waves in the chronic pain circles with her special interest.

We are SUPER proud of our boss, juangoosen, for absolutely smashing out 60km of running through the night this weekend.

This was held at the Festival of Movement organized by BcTri buffalocitytri buffalocitytriathlon.

Juan helped to raise funds towards the worthy recipient of Breath of Life.

Hospital based rehab:

This young boy is fighting a very serious blood cancer.
We work with him on a regular basis when he is admitted for chemotherapy. This can take months at a time depending on his treatment cycle and response to therapy. This means long days and nights stuck in the bed as a 12 year old.

Did you know that physiotherapy can be indicated in cancer patients to assist with:

- Fatigue
- Deconditioning
- Joint stiffness
- Pain
- Neuropathy
- Lymphoedema

When our patients in hospital become high functioning like this, we progress them onto programs that the patient can perform by themselves, with a regular check in.

This little dude is the ultimate inspiration. 🤍

Geriatric rehab part 3:

Goal setting in rehab:

This patient was driving until hospitalization. After hospitalization, she felt she had lost confidence to drive again.
Goal setting in therapy is important and this patient’s goal was to drive again.
Here we are working on foot speed, executive decision making, response time and problem solving. Cognitive abilities to perform a task are equally as important as physical abilities.

Please Note: Occupational Therapists assist in assessing patients for driving “readiness”.

Geriatric Rehab Part 2:

The WHY?

This patient loves to go for walks. She has to navigate short stretches of pavements that have this terrain in order to go for her walk.

We use strategies that are useful to improve her balance and confidence to maintain her independence in this activity.
