Post from Angela Moustafa:
Advice from a teacher as we get to the end of the year (and exams).
1. Limit access to devices. This one is huge. Good sleep, rest and quiet time are better options now. Lots of device time coming up in Dec.
2. Test anxiety is real and it starts from much younger than you'd think. Check on your kids. Not all kids are A students, if a 50% is their best, praise it and celebrate it.
3. Most kids need help studying because they actually don't know how to. Textbooks are not the only learning resource. YouTube is amazing. Kids love it. Use it. Every topic is on there. Don't leave kids to study independently and assume they are studying successfully.
4. It's actually not beneficial to study for hours at a time. Break it up. 20 minutes, take a short break. Eat, stretch, play, recharge. Repeat.
5. The best way to learn is to DO. Write, speak, draw, make rhymes and songs. Just reading over and over doesn't work for most kids. Let them teach you about their topics in their own words- and ask questions.
6. Exams are NOT THE END OF THE WORLD. As long as they give their best and try their best, be supportive and recognize their efforts. Even if it's not the result you want or hoped for.
7. Not all kids are academics. Some excel on the sports field, have mad artistic talent or are generally just very kind humans. Remember to remind them of their strengths. A confident child does better.
Good luck! ๐ฉโ๐ซ
