Baking Christmas cookies 🍪 ⏲️

This was done with some of our older children. They were given the ingredients and the first step of the method and then had to work out the remaining next steps📝

We made some cute little worry friends 💚

These are used as an anxiety management tool to help children refocus their thoughts. Many children with anxiety struggle to identify where their worries are coming from and therefore struggle to let go of a worry. They may then hold onto a small worry causing their anxiety to build throughout the day. These little worry friends can help some children try let go of their worry by passing their worry onto their little friend to help them out

What a week we have had !

Kim and Micaela both started their Ayres Sensory Integration®️ training this week, presented by the South African Institution for Sensory Integration.

We learnt so much about our sensory systems, neuro anatomy, typical development and more. It was an intense week but feeling so grateful to be able to participate as lifelong learners 💜

Next step: Post course activities and SAISC2 next year !

A large portion of children nowadays can find drawing quite an anxiety provoking task. Drawing is an integrated activity, which heavily relies on the child’s ability to form a plan, before translating the picture in their head to paper.

This activity worked on visual-motor integration, spatial planning, fine motor control etc. The same skills are used when a child has to copy down something off of the white board in class. By drawing alongside with the therapist, we are able to break the task down into sizeable chunks to allow for the just-right challenge.
