π¦Ά Bring your foot to rest on the opposite knee.
π¦Ά Use one hand to grasp your instep, and the fingers of the other to grasp your big toe.
π¦Ά Stretch it up, down, and to each side gently for five seconds in each direction.
π΅ Achilles stretch
π¦Ά Rest your foot on the opposite knee.
π¦Ά Grasp just above your ankle with one hand, and the ball of your foot with the other hand.
π¦Ά Rotate the ankle joint gently in a circular motion for five seconds.
π’ Toe press, point, and curl
π¦Ά Press down with your toes and raise your heels. Hold for five seconds.
π¦Ά Point your toes and raise your heels until only the tips of the big and second toe touch the floor. Hold for five seconds.

Gentle hand exercises have been shown to improve flexibility and range of motion, reduce joint damage, and lessen symptoms of pain. π±
Try reps of 10 for each hand, but if anything hurts, stop! π
β Make a fist β
Start with your fingers straight and then slowly bend your hand into a fist with your thumb on the outside. Keep the squeeze gentle - then straighten again.
π Bend your digits π
Stretch your hand in front of you, palm up. Then take each finger and move it very slowly to the centre of your palm. Hold it, then straighten.
π Thumbs up π
Have your hand in a loose fist with the pinky side of your hand on a table. Then point your thumb to make the thumbs-up sign, put it down, and repeat.
π Make a C or an O π
Move your fingers like youβre going to grab a little ball, and try to form a shape of a C or an O. Go as far as you can (an O would be making a complete circle with your fingers and thumb). Straighten your fingers and repeat.

Adaptive pain is helpful pain. It prevents further injury, and produces behavior that promotes healing and recovery. For example: you'll move your hand away from a hot stove and won't run on a sprained ankle. π¦΅
But sometimes pain can become maladaptive. This is pain that neither protects nor supports healing and repair. π₯
Examples include: fibromyalgia, peripheral and central neuropathic pain, and IBS. It has diverse causes, but virtually all forms are chronic (lasting three months to a lifetime) and highly resistant to treatment. π
Treatment varies according to the condition. Physiotherapy can both help to relieve pain and help you with movement and lifestyle changes to help manage it.

Pain sucks. But it also serves a purpose. Think about it, if you fell into a fire, but couldn't tell that there was anything wrong, you'd just stay there and cook!
Pain allows your body to respond and prevent further damage. It also teaches us to avoid certain actions (once burned, twice shy!).
