I'M DONE WITH THIS EFFIN YEAR!

Dear Friends,

If, like most people, you feel 2025 hasn’t exactly been kind and you desperately need to drag your weary body off for a well-deserved break, you have come to the right place.

From my side, as a personal note, I found this year especially challenging. I’m not sure if it’s typical year-end burnout out but all of a sudden, everything seems very expensive, and people are struggling more and more with health issues whilst relying on unreliable medical schemes and cutting back wherever possible.

I hear it almost daily: “Bianca, I simply don’t know what to do anymore. They downsized the company. I don’t even know if my job is safe anymore, and I’m doing the work of 2 or 3 people with no salary increase. I simply cannot cut back any more. My family now shares one car, we’ve cancelled gym, cell phone, and other contracts, but remain living month to month. Hand to mouth. I feel like I’m existing, not living.”

“I promised my child a bicycle for Christmas if he got good grades, but I was depending on my Christmas bonus to get it, and we didn’t get a bonus this year. I feel like a complete and utter failure.”

Your brain may have seven senses and it's wired for more

We’ve all been taught that humans have five senses. Sight, hearing, taste, touch, and smell. But science says your brain is working with much more than that.

New research suggests your brain actually depends on at least seven distinct senses to function at its best. In addition to the classic five, scientists have confirmed two lesser-known but essential senses: proprioception and interoception.

Proprioception is your body’s sense of where it is in space. It helps you walk in the dark or touch your nose with your eyes closed. Interoception is even more powerful, it lets your brain detect internal signals like hunger, thirst, heartbeat, or when you need to breathe deeper.

What’s surprising is how closely these extra senses are tied to mental health. Studies show that people with anxiety or depression often struggle with interoception. They feel disconnected from their own bodies, like something’s off, but they can’t explain why. That’s not just emotional. It’s neurological.

Your brain builds reality by constantly blending these senses. It needs all seven to stay balanced, focused, and aware. And when one is disrupted, it affects how you feel, think, and move.

Many of us are dumbing down our brains, social skills, and health by endlessly scrolling on social media platforms - especially when we consume short form slop content. Science labs all around the world are coming to the same conclusions about this daily practice for millions of people: it's literally changing our brains and who we are as people.

It's time to regain some agency and consciousness and choose the path we want. Right now, we are allowing ourselves to flow with the invitations of Big Tech platforms, whose algorithms want to keep us sucked into this low quality content. But we don't have to take the bait their algorithms provide.

When you notice yourself going from one thing to the next to the next, pause. Feel your feet on the ground, notice your surroundings, and choose to come back to the present - outside of the void that is doomscrolling.

Depression quietly reshapes your entire body long before you notice it

Most people think of depression as something that lives only in the mind, but science shows it affects your whole organism in ways that are deep and physical.

When your brain struggles your body follows. Stress circuits stay active longer than they should. Cortisol rises. Sleep becomes shallow. Your immune system starts firing in the wrong direction, increasing inflammation throughout your organs. Even your heart rhythm can change as your nervous system loses balance.

Your friends keep saying, "You should be moving on by now." But here's what they don't understand: you're not stuck in the past. You're drowning in a present that feels impossible to navigate.

If grief is still taking your breath away months (or even years) later, that's not weakness. That's complicated grief. And it's more common than you think, especially here, where we're dealing with multiple losses, community trauma, and zero time to process before the next funeral invitation lands.
