SSOT wishes to congratulate Kushinga on his outstanding achievement.

Words from Kushinga : "I am an Occupational Therapist and also hold (recently conferred) a Bachelor of Laws Degree. On this surface this may seem divergent; but my hope is to merge the two skills set, to yield and harness greater output from the two.

Occupational Therapy is very broad and it encompasses and transcends many disciplines. And on the other hand, the field of law, is neutral and can be used hand-in glove with any proffession.

My hope is to work within the medicolegal space and further to this champion and pursue disability advocacy as a subspecialty. More specifically to look at how poIicies (deduced within the precincts lf law) can be improved to better meet the needs of persons living within disabilities."

June is the month of SSOT's birthday.

For our birthday month and part of our celebrations, we would like to discuss the activity and art of decorating cupcakes and do a short analysis thereof, in order to convey the importance of activities of daily living in childrens' development.

The art of decorating cupcakes can address the following:
●Concrete judgement as the child has to decide how much icing is needed to cover the cupcake
●Tool handling and manipulation when using a spatula/knife/piping bag that addresses hand strength, fine motor coordination and spesifically requires proximal stability around our shoulder joints
●Placing sprinkles or decorations on top of the cupcakes require further fine motor coordination and in some instances even a pincer grasp.
●Decorating cupcakes enhances bilateral integration, which is the coordinated use of both sides of the body together and simultaneously
●The activity allows for spontaneity, creative ideas and provides an opportunity for children to express themselves.

Happy birthday month SSOT. May it be a month filled with cupcake decorations, party hats and lots of laughter.

Virtual court / trial

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, court / trials became virtual and adjusting to the virtual platform has been interesting to say the least. Imagine appearing in a virtual court with all parties sitting in remotely at different locations! More than 2 years later, we have mastered virtual court appearances / testimonies.
