Yes, lifting weights is hard.
But being weak makes life a LOT harder.
When you’re younger, it may not seem all that important.
But as you age, it becomes obvious.
After the age of 30, muscle mass decreases by approximately 3-8% every decade
After the age of 60, the rate of decline increases even more
If you want to stay independent and live life on your terms as you age, you need to perform some sort of resistance training regularly to improve and maintain as much muscle mass as possible
Invest in your health now for a quality of life your future self will be thankful for!
Resistance training (lifting weights, bodyweight exercises that are challenging, using band/cable resistance, etc) isn't just for athletes and bodybuilders
It's for anyone who wants to improve physical function and maintain a physically independent lifestyle throughout life! (in addition to all of the cognitive benefits it provides)
It's not easy or always enjoyable for everyone, but simply investing 20+ minutes, 2-3 days per week can help keep you living life on your terms instead of relying on others (family, friends, nursing home) to take care of you as you get into your later years
Stay active
Stay safe
Stay STRONG!
