New leadership is here! The NSRI welcomes 11 new Station Commanders who are bringing fresh energy and determination to sea rescue. Through specially designed leadership training, they are learning how to lead with heart and purpose, ensuring every station is equipped to serve its community effectively. Every number tells a story of a life protected. 🌊

Through water safety education, survival swimming, and Pink Rescue Buoys, the NSRI is helping South Africans stay safe in and around water.

In 2024:

📚 877,000+ water safety lessons taught

🏊 25,000+ survival swimming lessons given

🚨 Since the programme started, over 1,800 Pink Rescue Buoys have been installed, saving 221 lives.

Together, we can make sure fewer families feel the pain of preventable drownings. 💙

The game is loud. Drowning is silent.

Keep an eye on the South Africa vs New Zealand Rugby Game on 13 September to spot our message.

In the time it takes to play the match, 10 people in Africa will lose their lives to drowning.

Don’t just watch from the sidelines, be part of something bigger.

👉 Sign up via the link below for your chance to win a Smart TV or a Fieldbar Hamper and help us change the score on drowning.

Three years ago, Gareth Seroot’s life changed after a meeting with the NSRI. Mentored by Rebecca Carter-Smith and Sam Rorwana, he honed his lifesaving skills, including teaching children to swim in his free time. Despite challenging training, Gareth’s persistence paid off. Thanks to Sam’s guidance, he landed a job with the MSC Cruise Line. Gareth credits NSRI for giving him the skills for his incredible journey, proving that hard work and mentorship can lead to amazing opportunities.

NSRI Witbank’s new home!

We are building a new rescue base at Witbank Dam to keep our rescue assets safe and give the crew a ‘home’ from which to work. Although a rescue base building is not usually seen as important as a rescue vessel and other rescue equipment, it is integral to saving lives.

It goes beyond the obvious use as storage space for rescue assets such as vessels, vehicles, and equipment. A rescue base is the central point at which rescue operations are coordinated. It is an indispensable communications centre where rescuers on shore can communicate with our crew as they are responding and with the casualty when possible.

A rescue base is also where NSRI volunteers meet to train, discuss, communicate, and build on their skills.

The new building will play an integral part in keeping visitors to Witbank Dam safe, and you can help us make it a reality.
Please donate towards the cost of the base build by clicking the link below: https://www.nsri.org.za/rescue/base/witbankdam,

Then click on “Donate to this station,” and make your donation. You can also contact Renée on 067 425 1019 or renee@searescue.org.za for further information.

All donations, no matter how big or small, are welcome.
