Snacks are not essential as part of all diabetes diets, however do benefit in:

-Preventing overeating at main meals
-Preventing overeating and cravings in the evenings
-Help to maintain blood glucose levels in children and physically active individuals
- If you are not a breakfast person - split your breakfast into 2 (have something to eat when you wake up and then the rest, 2 hours later for a snack)

Prevent:

- Overeating
- Eating the incorrect foods
- Not being physically active
- Skipping meals
- Taking part in irresponsible behaviour which can negatively effect your health (heavy drinking or smoking)

Try:

- Planning meals and snacks
- Eating small, healthy snacks before events to prevent overeating
- Going for a walk after a heavy meal
- Taking a healthy, low carb side with to an event

Remember to:

- Continue to test your blood glucose
- Sleep well and enough
- Eat fibre rich meals
- Be active and go outdoors!
- Take your medication
