First Trimester Pregnancy Ultrasound

The first 12 weeks of pregnancy are called the first trimester.

A scan done during this time can help determine the length of the pregnancy, the estimated date of delivery and the viability of the pregnancy

Using an abdominal ultrasound probe, the pregnancy can be confirmed at about 5 weeks and a heartbeat confirmed from 8 weeks.

Other important findings during a scan can be to confirm that a pregnancy is inside the uterus and not in the tubes or other spaces outside of the uterus as well as if the pregnancy is single or multiple.

Call and book your scan with us on 065 992 2137.

In 2022, an estimated 660 000 women were diagnosed with cervical cancer worldwide and about 350 000 women died from the disease.

When diagnosed, cervical cancer is one of the most successfully treatable forms of cancer, as long as it is detected early and managed effectively.

Cervical cancer presents a significant public health threat to women on the African continent – out of 20 countries in the whole world with the highest cancer burden, only 1 out of 20 was not in Africa. Africa carries the highest burden of cervical cancer in the world.

Cervical cancer progresses slowly from the precancer stage to invasive cancer and it is entirely curable if diagnosed and treated early. The tragedy is that while this type of cancer is one of the most preventable, poor access to prevention, screening with pap smears and treatment contributes to 90% of deaths.

Cervical cancer is the 2nd most common cancer in South African women, but the cancer women die of the most in our country.

The most common cancer is breast cancer, but it has less death rates than cervical cancer.

Women in South Africa have a 24.71 in 100 000 lifetime risk of cervical cancer. Put in another way, 24.7 out of every 100 000 South African women will develop cervical cancer at sometime in their lives. This is a high chance of cancer.

Both breast and cervical cancer have been identified as a national priority because of increasing number of people being diagnosed with these two cancers.
