As your healthcare partner, we want to assist you by providing knowledge in any medical emergency. Be prepared in knowing how long it should take to be treated in accordance with an Emergency Unit Triage process.

RED - Very urgent – receives immediate attention
ORANGE - Urgent – receives attention within 10 minutes
YELLOW - Receives attention within one hour of arrival
GREEN - You may have to wait longer if there are more
serious patients to attend to.

If the emergency unit is not too busy with priority red and orange patients, you could be attended to sooner.

"Busting a myth: “Memory loss is just normal ageing.”

Mild forgetfulness can happen, but confusion or major memory loss may signal more serious conditions such as dementia. Ageing brings changes, but dementia is not “just getting old.” If daily tasks, recent events, or expressing thoughts become difficult, seek medical advice.
Check in now, because life does not have a rewind button.

Changes to your skin might be an indication of sun damage, or something more serious. Should you notice any abnormalities on your skin, it is important to consult with your Dermatologist for the appropriate treatment.

08/04/2026

Listening to your body, even when changes feel small or easy to dismiss, is one of the most important steps in preventative care.

Prevention starts with awareness: noticing early signs, asking questions and seeking professional medical advice sooner rather than later. Acting early can make a meaningful difference, support timely care and help protect your long-term health and well-being.

If something doesn’t feel quite right, trust that instinct. Consult a GP or physician to guide your next steps.

The word “nuclear” in a medical setting can be daunting. But for Dr Bruce Young, a nuclear medicine physician working alongside Life Healthcare, it is often the most valuable way to help treating doctors get clarity and define tailored cancer management plans with their patients.

In this interview, Dr Young explains how advanced scans like PET-CT work, why medical radiation is carefully controlled and safe and how these technologies help doctors better understand cancer and other diseases. At its core, nuclear medicine is about insight, giving your healthcare team the information they need to guide treatment decisions with confidence.

For patients and families navigating difficult diagnoses, that clarity can make all the difference. “He looked at my results and said, ‘Don’t worry, I can sort this out – kidney replacement therapy is an option available.’ Immediately, when he told me, my mind changed. I was positive all the way.”

For 63-year-old Henry Mntungwa, managing kidney failure involved more than just addressing his medical condition. A significant part of his journey of living with the condition was the emotional support he received from the Life Healthcare team. Kidneys are your body’s natural filtration system - removing waste, balancing fluids and helping keep you healthy. If you’re at higher risk for kidney disease, or your doctor has a concern, they may request kidney screening tests to check your kidney function. Kidney disease often has no early symptoms. Testing helps detect problems early, when treatment works best.

Speak to your doctor about your kidney health.

This week, we were proud to officially open our new digital PET-CT unit at Life Vincent Pallotti Hospital, in partnership with GE HealthCare – bringing advanced diagnostic oncology care closer to the communities we serve.

This state-of-the-art scanner, the first digital PET-CT scanner in the Life Healthcare Group and only the second privately operated PET-CT scanner in the Western Cape, gives doctors clearer, more detailed information to help manage cancer with greater accuracy, avoiding both under- and overtreatment.

We’re proud to share that Life Vincent Pallotti Hospital has completed 100 PET-CT scans since the opening of its nuclear medicine unit in November 2025. This milestone represents far more than a number. For specialists and cancer patients, PET‑CT technology enables more precise tumour detection, clearer assessment of disease and personalised treatment planning, often supporting more targeted, less invasive care.

Facing a child’s cancer diagnosis requires extraordinary courage - from the child and from their family. While doctors and medical specialists lead the treatment, parents and caregivers play an equally important role. They become a steady source of strength in guiding, comforting and supporting their child through an incredibly difficult journey.

We've highlighted three ways to bring comfort and reassurance to your child as you help them navigate a cancer diagnosis.

To learn more about common childhood cancers that are prevalent in South Africa, read here: https://www.lifehealthcare.co.za/news-and-info-hub/cancer/childhood-cancer-signs-symptoms-and-when-parents-should-act/?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=link&utm_campaign=feb26_childhoodcancer

Have you heard of mole mapping?

It's an advanced dermatological screening that carefully tracks and monitors your moles over time to help detect signs of skin cancer. Early intervention can also reduce the need for a biopsy. Your skin tells a story about your health. Staying informed and monitoring your moles can save your life, so we’ve compiled a list of changes to look out for.
