Age-related illnesses such as dementia, heart disease and strokes commonly occur after middle age, with genetic predispositions increasing the likelihood of developing diseases in even the healthiest of elderly people. No matter how fit you are right now, there’s no getting away from the fact that you’re going to become more susceptible to illness, accidents, sudden falls, and broken bones as you age.
