Clean Water Access | water stewardship example

Proper watershed management is essential for clean water access, soil conservation, and climate resilience. The BRIGHT project, in partnership with Ugandaโ€™s Ministry of Water and Environment, is working with local communities to conserve and restore watersheds, prevent illegal sand mining, and promote tree planting for water purification.

Speaking at a recent watershed conservation activity in Kabarole District, Kanyamura Village Local Council Chairperson Muhindo Karyata emphasized the importance of community action:

โ€œSafeguarding watersheds is our shared responsibility. By protecting them, we are protecting our health and agriculture, the very foundation of our livelihoods. I encourage all of us to care for our watersheds and hold ourselves accountable by reporting those who degrade themโ€ฆโ€

 South Africa, Mandela Day Celebrations

South Africa, Mandela Day Celebrations

"What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. It is what difference we have made to the lives of others."" โ€” Nelson Mandela

At Seriti Institute, Mandela Day reminds us that real change is rooted in care, community, and collective action.

Through our programmes โ€” aRe Bapaleng, Work.Learn.Grow, GreenWorks, Seriti PARTNER, and Community Response โ€” we work alongside communities to build dignity, resilience, and opportunity from the ground up.

Our work is guided by the belief that development with dignity is possible when people come first.

Together with partners such as the Social Employment Fund, Standard Bank - South Africa, DGMT, and many others, we are co-creating solutions that honour dignity, spark hope, and unlock opportunity in under-resourced communities across the country.

This Mandela Day, we honour Madibaโ€™s legacy โ€” and the thousands of people who continue to serve, to listen, and to walk hand-in-hand with communities to build a better future for all.
