Wonderful Case at ClinTech Health:

58 year old Male was referred to us for a heart sonar from his general practitioner with symptoms of weakness, tiredness, discomfort in the chest / stomach area.

Patient presented with risk factors of hypertension and presence of DDD Pacemaker, no previous history of heart failure.

On the heart sonar we founded severely hypertrophied left ventricular muscle with reduced global LV function of 35% (SP/EL), or in simple terms reduced heart function. His septum measured 23 mm (normal is considered less than 9mm).

On further inspection we used Speckle Tracking Analysis technology to evaluate global strain function, which was severely reduced to -4.1% (normal strain is less than -18%).

On the bulls-eye graph we gained more knowledge and guidance towards a certain diagnosis which led us to question if the heart had an infiltrative disease like amyloidosis, which was our first guess.

The presence of amyloidosis was later confirmed by blood tests and biopsy, to be the cause of the ‘big muscle’ and that amyloid infiltration was also present in other organs of the patient.

The general practitioner could go forward with accurate treatment for his patient and give him the needed medical help.

Its wonderful how a mere heart sonar could guide us to make accurate diagnosis’s and save patients lives.
