Body Stress Release is a health profession concerned with unlocking the tension stored in physical structures, thereby assisting the body in restoring its maximum efficiency. This gentle technique assists the body in its own healing process and brings effective relief from many forms of tension, pain and discomfort caused by the build-up of stress in the body. When the stresses of life - whether mechanical, chemical or mental/emotional - reach the level of overload,the body is no longer able to adapt constructively. The stress becomes locked into the physical structures, causing pain, stiffness, numbness, headaches or postural distortions. This stored tension has an impact on the nervous system and undermines the body's natural ability to co-ordinate its functions and heal and maintain itself. Body Stress Release brings effective relief from pain and discomfort from many different causes, including back pain, neck pain, headaches and various types of stress and even sporting injuries. Body Stress Release does not use medication or machines, nor does it involve massage, manipulation, pressure points or energy meridians. It is practical and logical. Mechanical stress or stress related to the movement of the body can be found in various parts of the body but is more predominantly associated with the lower back and neck area. It can be caused by various things such as poor posture, sudden or reflex actions and impact. Mental or emotional stress can sometimes be the most elusive as it is the one not normally immediately seen or felt and definitely the one most don't understand and yet it can cause more built up tension and stress within the body than mechanical or chemical stress can at times. BSR is such a gentle technique, that it is superbly suited to releasing built up mental or emotional stress and we often find that releasing this kind of stress in people has the most profound effect on them.

Symptoms of chemical stress overload may be severe headaches, often accompanied by nausea and/or pain through one eye. At 32 *Christine had suffered intense, ongoing facial pain for 4 years. It dated back to the birth of her child who had an incurable terminal condition and required constant nursing. As the wife of a high-profile executive, her life was filled with other stress. She was frequently called on to play the role of hostess for important clients and provide gourmet dinners at short notice. Her GP diagnosed her with Trigeminal Neuralgia. This was confirmed by a specialist who recommended a drastic surgical procedure. Certain nerves of the face would be severed, which would terminate the pain, but there was a slight chance of loss of control of the facial muscles. There was another option which was regarded as somewhat experimental, in which the nerves would be injected with a toxin. As *Christine could no longer tolerate the pain, she was ready to agree to one of the procedures when a friend suggested she give BSR a try first. The practitioner found her neck and shoulder muscles to be rigid and extremely sensitive to the touch. Tension was also stored in her lower spine. Although the areas released ached quite intensely, the facial pain lessened and there were fewer stabbing sensations. By her third session, there was no more pain in her face. She felt only stiffness in her neck and lower back. During her fourth session, *Christine was a changed person. She was cheerful and relaxed, and looked 10 years younger. She mentioned that her last session had brought on an intense emotional release, and she cried copiously. Somehow she now felt more capable of dealing with her difficult life situation
