Génre van Zyl, affectionately known as G-Man, started out in 2008 when his brother Rehgert (known as Redds) started an NGO called Aleph in George, Western Cape.
Génre started surfing from a young age and his love for all things boards and ocean tweaked his curiosity so he started learning how to fix and shape boards with the help of Google & YouTube.
As time went by he realised that this is his passion in life and he started pursuing it full-time. He has worked with many great shapers such as Simon Fish (Fishstix), Greg Smith (Curved Air) and Emile Fourie (Emileon). He has travelled and trained extensively all the way from Cape Town to Jeffreys Bay.
He also perfected his glassing skills for four years under the masterful Matthew Campbell, aka Cam, who owns Moana Glasshouse in St Francis and has recently returned to his old stomping ground in the Garden Route. He now has a workshop in Herold’s Bay and will be doing regular pick-ups in George.
