GOD only!
We at Intaka Ezimbili Moringa would like to wish all of the inspiring and wonderful women out there a happy international womenβs day!!
68 years ago today, a group of about 20 000 women Marched to the Union Buildings in Pretoria to protest against the pass laws. Led by Lilian Ngoyi, Sophia Williams, Helen Joseph, and Rahima Moosa, these fearless women stood together in silence for 30 minutes, and then in unison sang βWathint'Abafazi Wathint'imbokodo! β(Translating to: now you have touched the woman, you have struck a rock.)
We at Intaka Ezimbili Moringa are a small family business run by a mother and daughter duo. Monica Olwagen comes from a small town in Kwazulu Natal called Utrecht. Monica moved to Johannesburg after finishing high school and had worked tirelessly to ensure that her children would have the best upbringing that she could afford.
My motherβs efforts and constant encouragement throughout the years have made me who I am today. I am Krissmonne Olwagen, a masters student, an intern, and admin manager at Intaka Ezimbili Moringa. Many people ask me βhow do you do it?!?!β. My answer is that I have been carried on the backs of strong women such as my mother, my sister, my aunts, and my cousins. It is their legacy that I carry. It is the legacy of so many women that never gave up on crafting the lives they wanted for themselves and others that gives me motivation.
May all of the femmes out there have a wonderful day!
