24/03/2026
World TB Day is observed every year on 24 March to raise awareness about tuberculosis and the global efforts needed to eliminate this disease. The date marks the historic discovery made in 1882 by Dr. Robert Koch, who identified the bacterium that causes TB, opening the path to diagnosis and treatment.
The 2026 theme, “Yes, We Can End TB: Led by Countries, Powered by People,” highlights the importance of strong leadership, innovation, primary healthcare systems, and committed communities working together to end TB.
Key Facts About Tuberculosis (TB):
• TB is an infectious disease caused by the bacterium Mycobacterium tuberculosis
• It most commonly affects the lungs, but can spread to other parts of the body
• TB spreads through the air when an infected person coughs, sneezes, or talks
• It is preventable and treatable, especially when detected early
• The BCG vaccine helps protect infants against severe forms of TB
Despite being treatable, tuberculosis continues to affect millions of people globally. Early diagnosis, access to treatment, and strong public health systems remain essential to achieving the global goal of eliminating TB by 2030.
CRISMO supports efforts that strengthen community awareness, early detection, and access to healthcare, helping build healthier communities and a TB-free future.
