TAC Ekurhuleni had a challenge with access to healthcare facilities for the community mobilisers after the Resources for Health March in June. Most community mobilsers were not allowed access to the sites due to the memorandum that was handed over to the MEC for health which reflected the poor delivery of health services.

TAC staff members held a meeting with the district department of Health to pledge for a memorandum of understanding especially when it comes to the community mobilisers working at the site and also accessing statistics from the clinics. They presented a proposal highligting the importance of having the community mobilisers in health facilities as it would assist the Gauteng Provincial Department of Health in ensuring that there is adequate supply of essential medicine and other equipment for the communities access the public health sites.

The Department of Health acknowledged the importance of the role of the community mobilisers especially for TAC in assisting the clinics in service delivery and we were officially given a verbal persmisson for all community mobilisers to be back at the clinics by the first week of September 2012. The memorandum of understanding will also be signed by then. However the DOH promised that even if the MOU is not signed by the first week of September they will send an email or circular to all facility managers to allow TAC staff back in the facilities.
