Sasonah Lodge Care Centre opened its doors on the 1st of May 2004
Sister Colleen Nunn is the owner and matron in charge. Sasonah Lodge catered for Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and frail patients, and as of May 2013 expanded and we now cater for cancer patients as well as anybody terminally ill needing care. We at Sasonah Lodge try our outmost best to try and eliminate the clinical type environment which enables our patients to do as they normally would in their own homes. Sasonah Lodge can accommodate 30 patients and we have now erected two retirement cottages as we have found that many times there are couples where one of which is affected by an illness and the spouses do not want to part, therefore they will remain together but still receive assistance from our nurses. Assisting patients diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease can be extremely difficult as they tend to have terrible mood swings, often bad tempers, and can become extremely emotional and are confused majority of the time, fortunately our nurses have been with us for many years and are trained to handle each patient and treat them holistically. Sasonah Lodge is unfortunately not subsidized as yet, although we are currently awaiting feedback from Social Development. As mentioned above that Alzheimer patients can get quite angry and very often break things, we are forever replacing odds and ends, therefore there is continuous maintenance happening. Our goal at Sasonah Lodge is not to be the most popular centre but to be a place for a patient to be taken care of with the love, care and dignity that they deserve. We have some big goals for the year and are hoping to get assistance for corporate as well as our community.
