OFFICIAL UPDATE STATEMENT

The Journey Africa Foundation – Legacy Walkathon Initiative

The Journey Africa Foundation officially commenced its work on the 8th of March 2026, with the initial intention of launching the Legacy Walkathon from Botswana.

However, as preparations unfolded, it became clear that this journey carries a deeper and more immediate purpose than previous initiatives undertaken.

Unlike past efforts, this campaign is rooted in practical action in real time.

The Foundation has
adopted an approach that ensures construction begins alongside the journey itself—building not months after completion, but from the very first steps taken.

Over the past 14 days, significant groundwork has been laid.

The Foundation has actively engaged with various stakeholders, including companies and individuals, under the banner of The Journey Africa Foundation in support of the Zimele Early Childhood Development (ECD) Centre.

We are encouraged to report that land has been officially made available for the rebuilding of the crèche.

Furthermore, two commitments of building materials have been secured.

While no monetary contributions have been received to date, several pledges have been made, and engagements remain ongoing.

Looking ahead, the Foundation is preparing to commence the laying of the foundation for the structure during the week of 22 March 2026.

This marks a critical milestone in transitioning from planning to tangible development.

The Journey Africa Foundation continues to actively canvass for building materials and support.

We once again extend a call to the public, stakeholders, organisations, private companies, and the broader community to partner with us in this important initiative.

Together, we can ensure that every child has access to a safe, dignified space to learn, play, and grow.

This journey begins with the rebuilding of the Zimele ECD Centre.

A message of support from the National Secretary of the Young Communist League of South Africa, encouraging the journey and the spirit behind it. A reminder that when people come together with heart and purpose, real impact can happen in our communities. The support and solidarity from the youth gives this journey even more meaning as we move forward.

Chapter 1: The Beginning of a Journey

Every journey begins with a reason.
Not just to move from one place to another — but to carry a purpose.

The Journey Africa Legacy Walk begins in Gaborone, but its true destination lies far beyond the road. It is a journey of commitment, memory, and responsibility — a walk across borders to remind ourselves that the future of our children cannot wait.

This walk is dedicated to rebuilding hope in Hlokozi Village, where the dream of a safe early childhood development centre still lives in the hearts of the community.

Step by step, kilometre by kilometre, the road will become a message:
that when people care enough to move, even the longest distances can bring change.

Pledge a brick, build a future. 🧱✨
We are walking 250km from Gaborone to Rustenburg with one clear mission: rebuilding the Early Childhood Development Centre in Hlokozi Village. Every child deserves a safe place to learn, and you can help us make that a reality!
How the "Pledge a Brick" campaign works:
1️⃣ Start the chain by pledging 1 or 2 bricks (or the R20/R40 equivalent).
2️⃣ Nominate 2–5 friends to do the same.
3️⃣ Share your pledge on social media and tag your nominees!
4️⃣ Watch the wall grow as we reach our goal together.
Whether it’s R20 for a brick or donating materials like cement and sand, every bit counts. Let’s build this legacy, one step at a time. 👣

Every step has a purpose. 👣From Gaborone to Rustenburg, we are hitting the pavement to make a difference. This walkatho...

Statement by The Journey Africa Foundation
On the Women for Change GBV & Femicide Shutdown – 21 November 2025

The Journey Africa Foundation extends its heartfelt congratulations to Women for Change and all partner organisations for successfully securing 21 November as a National Disaster Day in recognition of the ongoing Gender-Based Violence and Femicide crisis in South Africa. This achievement is not only historic, but a direct result of the relentless bravery, unity, and unwavering commitment of survivors, activists, and communities who refuse to be silenced.

As we observe the nationwide shutdown, The Journey Africa Foundation stands in full solidarity with the women, children, and families whose lives have been scarred by violence. Today is a powerful reminder that the fight against GBV & Femicide is not symbolic— it is a national emergency that demands urgent, coordinated, and sustained action.

We call on the people of South Africa, and on every institution—government, civil society, the private sector, and community structures—to move beyond statements of sympathy and adopt real, measurable interventions that protect lives. The recognition of 21 November as a National Disaster must mark not only a moment of acknowledgement, but the beginning of a profound shift in policy, accountability, and societal responsibility. Lip service must end; action must begin.

To the survivors leading this movement: your courage continues to shape the future of this country. To the families and communities standing with them: you carry the moral weight of this struggle with dignity and strength. And to government leaders: this shutdown signals a clear and urgent demand from the nation—do not fail the people again.

Let this day strengthen our collective resolve. Let it remind us that silence is complicity. And let it reaffirm that South Africa will never truly be free until every woman and child is safe.

The Journey Africa Foundation stands with you. Today, and every day.
