Our crew presented a talk on beach safety β€” covering how to prepare before heading to the beach and what to do to stay safe in and around the water. πŸ–
Medic Nix also gave an informative CPR demonstration, showing just how important quick action can be in an emergency. β€β€πŸ©Ή

To wrap up the day, we all joined forces for a rescue demonstration, showcasing how teamwork saves lives. πŸš€πŸ‘¨β€πŸš’

And… swipe to meet the newest (and possibly cutest) member of our crew β€” Duck! πŸ¦†πŸ’› He made quite the landing on deck and has already stolen a few hearts.

🚨 Weekend Training Update – Charlie Crew in Action! 🌊

Our Charlie Crew was out sharpening their skills with a solid training session at Station 9 NSRI. The session was full of energy, teamwork, and tradition!

A big shoutout to Brad, Nicci, and Jaco, who officially earned their Sea Crew badges πŸ‘. In true Station 9 style, they followed the time-honoured tradition of swimming out to get ice cream on the beach – and of course, they brought some back for the rest of the crew. Legends!

As part of the day’s training, Charlie Crew also crossed the bar to Station 10, where they played a vital role in a joint Search and Rescue (SAR) operationβ€”this time, acting as the casualty vessel. Inter-station collaboration like this is what keeps us sharp and connected.

πŸ’ͺ Great work, team. Proud of the commitment and camaraderie shown by everyone involved.

πŸ©ΊπŸš‘ Maritime Emergency Care Assessment | Station 9

Last week, several of our crew completed their Maritime Emergency Care assessment β€” a vital part of ensuring we're always ready to respond with skill and confidence.

We’d like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Kathy Bodmer, owner of Professional Emergency Care (PEC), for so generously offering to conduct the assessments free of charge. Your support makes a real difference to volunteer rescue teams like ours.

A special thanks also to Marlize Venter, who went above and beyond by conducting the assessments after hours β€” we are truly grateful for your time, energy, and dedication.

πŸ‘ Well done to our crew for stepping up once again!

🚨 Sunday Call Out | 27 July 🚨
At 09h30 on Sunday morning, our NSRI Station 9 duty crew were activated to assist a local fishing vessel that had experienced mechanical failure about 3 nautical miles offshore from Gordon’s Bay, with 5 crew onboard.

As we prepared to launch Spirit of Surfski, the casualty vessel reported their vessel was taking on water and at risk of sinking. NSRI Simon’s Town was placed on alert in case additional help was needed.

Our rescue crew launched with a water pump onboard. An orange smoke flare deployed by the fishermen helped us locate them quickly. All five men were wearing life jackets and were safely accounted for.

We transferred 3 crew members onto our rescue boat and assisted the remaining 2 to establish a towline. As we towed the vessel back, water drained naturally, easing the risk of sinking.

The vessel was safely brought into Gordon’s Bay Harbour and recovered onto its trailer, with the operation concluding at 12h16.

Well done to all involved for the calm and coordinated effort! πŸ™Œ
