I get it: we all have tight budgets. Especially nowadays...
But supporting local is still a simple decision for me.
In my opinion, it comes down to this:
Do I know where and when my bag is made?
Can I go & visit it to see the working conditions and speak to the seamstresses who make the bags?
When I have a question or complaint, can I pick up the phone & speak to a human on the other side?
Do I share the same sense of humour, language, climate, work ethic as the business owner and workers?
I think a lot of people really do want to support local businesses, but when something online is much cheaper, it’s hard to ignore. That’s just real life, and I get it.
Trust me: my wallet, EISH.. and my budget: its hard work to keep it not falling into the abyss.
But does it not make sense for both your wallet AND the South African economy, to rather buy LESS, but buy BETTER.
At Lula Handmade I do this by:
* buying from local suppliers
* supporting a local skills development project who manufactures LULA products as part of their fundraising effort.
* by donating 10% of each sale to a local women's empowerment NPO
Want to be part of something better, that lasts & support fellow South Africans?
Comment "SUPPORT LOCAL" for a quick to locally made bags & gifts that last.
