President Ramaphosa has called on all South Africans to spend at least two minutes in silence or in prayer tonight anytime between 18:00-18:30. Let us join together in praying for our country.
Feel free to use this prayer tonight:
Heavenly Father,
Thank you that you are all powerful and full of love.
In the uncertainty and fear of this moment in history, we lift up South Africa to you.
We pray that you would strengthen and protect all our medical staff who labour to make people well. Strengthen them in body, mind and spirit and we commit their families to you as well.
We lift up our army and police as well as employees in other essential services who will need to work during this lockdown.
We hold before you those who will find this lockdown particularly difficult:
Families without easy access to clean water, overcrowded homes and those with a history of domestic violence.
We pray for those who are worried about the financial implications of this virus - May they turn their worries into prayers and rest in You, taking things day by day.
As we pray against the spread of this virus, may we all help answer this prayer by staying home and washing our hands.
Thank you for an opportunity to connect with family, perhaps work remotely, read, pray, spend time in Your Word and sleep. May we make the most of this lockdown period and use our time wisely.
Lord Jesus, You promised us peace and joy, no matter the circumstances. May we be open to receiving this from You and passing this on to others.
We may be apart from each other, but we stand together.
Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer.
Amen.
