🌿💚🌱 Breaking Barriers in Medical Cannabis Research🌿🌿💚✊️
Message from Dr Gallow:

🌟I want to shed light on the ongoing stigma that still surrounds medical cannabis—even within academic and clinical research circles.

🌟For the past 2.5 years, I’ve been working relentlessly to publish my research. My first two papers—both rigorous literature reviews—were transferred or rejected by nine different journals, including some in the field of cancer research, all citing that it was "not a suitable fit for this journal"

But I never gave up.

✊️🌟Today, I’m beyond thrilled to share that my scoping review about Cannabis and Prostate Cancer For Quality of life has been accepted for publication by The Next Research Journal (Elsevier | ScienceDirect). 🌿📚

✊️💚As a Cannabis Clinician and PhD researcher, this milestone means more than a publication—it represents perseverance, advocacy, and a step forward in destigmatizing plant-based medicine.

🌿✊️Publishing cannabis research remains an uphill battle. Many journals are owned or influenced by big pharma, and navigating that reality has been one of the toughest parts of this journey.

✊️🌿This acceptance is particularly meaningful as I approach the final year of my third PhD, where these publications are critical to completing my exams.

🔊 To fellow researchers, clinicians, and advocates: Keep going. Our work matters. The stigma is real, but change is possible.

💪 Let’s keep pushing boundaries—and let’s never stop advocating for science, compassion, and truth in medicine.

⚠️ Important Notice: Unethical Research Practices ⚠️

Participating in fraudulent research activities violates the Declaration of Helsinki and is illegal under the POPI Act and Pharma-Ethics regulations.

⚠️Be aware: If you are asked to sign up for a research trial by any franchised shop selling cannabis, it is a scam.

⚠️The only legitimate chronic pain research trial in South Africa closed on 30 August 2023. Please see the attached proof from Pharma-Ethics below.

⚠️ During the real trial, patients received medication and doctor consultations at NO COST, as all ethical clinical trials are designed this way. Doctors carefully monitored patients while safely weaning them off opioids.

⚠️The misinformation spread by these franchised shops is fraudulent and harmful. It violates the Declaration of Helsinki, the POPI Act, and Pharma-Ethics regulations.

⚠️This fraudulent activity puts the medical licenses of all investigators involved in the legitimate trial at risk.

⚠️ If you are asked to provide personal information for a "research trial" by these shops, report it immediately to:

SAPS (South African Police Service)

Pharma-Ethics

SAHPRA (South African Health Products Regulatory Authority)

⚠️ Serious Health Risks to Patients

🚨 Some patients have been hospitalized after being sold extremely high-dose THC edibles under the false pretense of a research trial.

🚨 If you filled out fake research forms, provided personal data, or became ill from the products you purchased, report it to Pharma-Ethics, SAPS, and SAHPRA immediately.

💚 We must protect vulnerable patients from fraudsters looking to make quick profits.

*****Update on hospitalised patients who purchased illicit high THC cannabis from franchised shops****
🙏Patients are ok and discharged, just a bit traumatised by the experience
🙏On further investigation, these patients mentioned they were told to sign up for a research trial by theses shops and provided all their information, they then had to purchase the product.
The patients were not asked any medical information, and the person behind the counter then suggested edibles for them. Upon investigation these were extremely high THC products for naive patients.
🌿We would like to inform the public that the only chronic pain research trial for pain in SA had closed on the 30 August 2023.
🌿Please find attached proof below from Pharma-Ethics
🌿During our legitimate trial we provided patients with medicines and drs consults at NO COST as trials are designed this way. All the doctors closely monitored the patients while weaning them off their opioids safely.
🌿This misinformation from these franchised shops is fraudalent and harming patients and goes against the Declaration of Helsinki. Furthermore it is illegal and also going against the POPPI act and Pharma-ethics.
🌿This fraudalent activity also puts all of the investigators medical licences of the real trial that was closed at risk.
🌿The affected patients have already reported this incident and this scam to the authorities.
🌿IF YOU ARE ASKED TO FILL IN ANY INFORMATION REGARDING A RESEARCH TRIAL BY THESE SHOPS YOU NEED TO REPORT THIS TO SAPS, PHARMA ETHICS AND SAHPRA.
💚We need to protect the public health of our vulnerable patients, by these fraudsters trying to make quick money.

We welcome CannMed 25 speaker, Dr. Shiksha Gallow. Dr. Gallow is a global pioneer in the medical cann*bis industry, driven by a transformative vision: "To empower global healing through holistic practices." She holds an impressive array of qualifications, including certification as a Cann*bis Clinician (USA), expertise as a Medical Researcher, Holistic Integrative Ethno-Medical Practitioner, Medical Scientist (Clinical Pathology), Neuroscientist, and Health Coach. She currently serves as the Medical Director of the Holistic Integrative Healing Institute and is notably the first and only South African to sit on the Board of Directors of the Society of Cannabis Clinicians in the USA. Holistic Healing Dr Gallow

In her presentation, she will discuss “Comprehensive Evaluation of the ‘Impact of Cann*binoids’ on Prostate Cancer: Integrating PSA, PET/CT” At

Background
Prostate cancer is the fourth most common cancer globally, representing 7.3% of all cases and 14.1% of male cancers. This empirical study provides a thorough examination of how cann*binoids impact prostate cancer, covering PSA levels, PET/CT scans, and patient-reported outcomes.

Objectives
The objectives were to assess the influence of cann*binoids on PSA levels, metabolic activity, tumor size via PET/CT scans, and patient-reported outcomes like pain levels and quality of life.

Methodology
Using a quantitative approach within a positivist paradigm, participants were recruited from Cancer Care clinics in the Eastern Cape. Inclusion criteria required a prostate cancer diagnosis and specific medical history and cann*bis usage adherence. From 125 eligible individuals, 90 participants were determined through sample size calculation. Data collection involved PSA data from pathology reports, PET/CT scan results, and regular patient surveys, utilizing validated tools such as the Brief Pain Inventory and EQ5D questionnaire. Ethical standards were strictly followed, with participants providing voluntary consent. Analysis using SPSS focused on primary objectives related to PSA outcomes and tumor size evaluating PET scans.
