Hearing through a cochlear implant (CI) is a powerful part of many people’s journey, restoring access to sound, connection, and communication.

But even as a CI wearer, protecting your hearing remains essential.

While the implant provides access to sound, exposure to excessively loud environments can still be uncomfortable and, in some cases, affect the residual natural hearing in the implanted or non-implanted ear. Loud noise may also impact the performance or comfort of your sound processor.

Loving the journey means protecting the technology and the hearing you have.

Simple steps to consider:

• Avoid prolonged exposure to very loud environments
• Use appropriate hearing protection when needed
• Adjust processor settings if sound becomes uncomfortable
• Attend regular follow-up appointments

Your implant supports your ability to engage fully in life and thoughtful hearing care helps you continue that journey with clarity and confidence.

A few quick tips…

Healthy hearing is supported by everyday habits. Turning the volume down, taking breaks from loud noise, avoiding unnecessary ear probing, and giving your ears time to recover all help protect long-term hearing health. iCAN promotes simple, practical awareness that supports better hearing over time.

Ear-tastic Fun Facts! 👂💡

Our ears are truly extraordinary — they keep growing throughout our lives, their prints are completely unique, and they contain the smallest muscles in the human body. They even help us tell time and keep us balanced every day. 🌍✨

Here’s what your ears do:

1️⃣ Ears Keep Growing:
Just like a lifelong adventure, our ears continue to grow throughout our entire lives! So the next time you feel like your favourite tunes sound different, blame it on the growth spurt.

2️⃣ Unique Earprints:
Move over fingerprints! Each person has a unique earprint — it’s nature’s way of giving us our own personalised sound identity.

3️⃣ Small but Mighty Muscles:
The smallest muscles in the human body are found in the ears. These tiny powerhouses help amplify sounds so we can enjoy everything from a whisper to a symphony.

4️⃣ Built-In Timekeepers:
Our inner ears play a role in sensing the passage of time — like having a tiny internal clock working behind the scenes.

5️⃣ Balance Controllers:
Your ears help you stay balanced and steady as you move through the world. The inner ear’s vestibular system works like a built-in navigation tool, keeping you upright and aligned.

The more we understand our ears, the more we appreciate the world of sound around us.
Prioritise your hearing — stay connected to life’s moments.

🧠 Did you know your ears and brain work together? When your hearing is compromised, your brain has to work harder to fill in the gaps, which can affect memory and focus. Protecting your hearing is protecting your brain. 💡
