How can you tell if you are suffering from chemically induced body stress?
The effects usually appear suddenly: headaches (often with a distinct pain pattern), muscle tightness or pain at the base of the skull, and in some cases dizziness or even nausea. A common sign is that the person’s face becomes noticeably pale.

This is one of our frequently asked questions by clients: There can be an increase of pain after one's first visit as areas numbed by pressure are released and unlocked and feeling returns to these areas.

If you or someone you love is living with any of these kinds of struggles, we would love to help!
BSR is a gentle, non-invasive technique that uses lines of nerve communication within the body to release built-up body tension and stress, which in turn leads to the symptoms shown here.

The 3 Phases of Body Stress Release (BSR)
Body Stress Release is a gentle yet powerful process that helps unlock layers of stored tension. The journey follows three phases:
1. Intensive Phase – Essential starting point
Day 1, Day 4, (sometimes Day 7), and Day 11.
This phase addresses the immediate reasons you may seek BSR, such as pain, discomfort, postural strain, headaches, or emotional stress.
2. Subsequent Phase – Supporting deeper release
Sessions once a week or every second week (depending on your body’s needs).
Here, we continue releasing deeper layers of tension, helping your body return to a more balanced state of well-being.
3. Maintenance Phase – Your commitment to long-term health
Once every 3 weeks, monthly, or every 6 weeks.
This phase helps you sustain the benefits, supporting resilience and ongoing wellness.
BSR is not just about relief - it’s about supporting your body’s natural ability to heal and thrive.

Marknesse — A striking new sight can now be seen driving through the region: the brand-new Praktijk op Wielen (“Practice on Wheels”) by Sonja Kamminga is a reality. After months of planning, rebuilding, and fine-tuning, the mobile practice van is now officially in use.
“It’s my dream come true,” says Kamminga. “Independent, flexible, and completely designed my way.”

After seventeen years of working within a group practice, Kamminga decided to take a new path. She left the large company building and, together with her son Jesse Folkensma, founded a shared practice space for complementary and holistic work. A few rooms are still available for therapists (see last week’s edition of De Noordoostpolder). Kamminga remains partly active there, but her main focus is now on her mobile practice.

The van is fully equipped with a professional treatment table and all the essentials for Body Stress Release sessions. “For people who can’t come to me, the van offers a solution,” Kamminga explains. “And it’s extra special that I can also treat animals such as horses and dogs on location. Afterwards, their owners receive a session inside the van. That makes this way of working truly unique.”

For now, Praktijk op Wielen only visits clients who are homebound. The van is therefore a valuable addition to the fixed practice and a first in the world of mobile alternative care.

My BSR story:

I was first introduced to BSR when I was about 8 years old. My mother suffered from frequent unbearable migraines. She discovered BSR and after three sessions her migraines went away. When I was in high school my grandparents went for BSR as well. I remember my grandfather walking into the session bent over and in an insane amount of pain. He walked out standing straighter and smiling with his pain drastically decreased. At a young age I was amazed at how BSR helped my family.

Fast forward a couple of years, I’m stuck in an admin job feeling trapped and wondering how I can change my life around and get back to fulfilling my passion of helping people. I rediscovered BSR, read up on it, read all the case studies, the history of BSR and what it is, I was hooked. I booked my sessions and applied to study almost straight away.

I had a couple of concerns, restless legs, tinnitus, spasms in my neck, pins and needles in my arms, not the mention my various injuries from my 4 scooter accidents. EVERY discomfort I had went away with BSR, I was pain free.

While studying BSR I was reminded why I fell in love with it, that we work with the body, not against it and we believe the body heals itself. I also learned that pain is not normal and that we don’t have to settle for it. We can be pain free, our bodies can heal, it just needs the nudge in the right direction, and that is what BSR does.

As I mentioned before, my passion is to help people, which is why I started my career as a BSR Practitioner by doing a two week outreach at a Special Needs School in Mthatha.

My husband and I moved to New Zealand in 2023 and to Cambridge early this year. We have fallen in love with the town cannot wait to grow our family and become part of the community.

THE SIGNIFICANCE OF OUR LOGO:
The BSR logo depicts a white leafy tree on a dark green background. Below it, the dark green root system is a symmetrical pattern of loops on a white background. The arcing lines represent the unseen pathways of communication in the body - the coherent flow of life energy. The roots may also symbolise body stress, hidden ‘underground’, and demonstrate that although stress is an undermining force, it is stored in an organised form (there is order and intelligence, even in apparent chaos). When the stress is released, the life energy is restored, represented by the flourishing tree.

Did you know your body can store stress or tension in layers?
A past trauma or stressful experience can become “locked” in the body, and over the years, more layers of stress may build on top of it.
Through gentle work on these areas, these layers can gradually release, bringing a growing sense of ease and relief. Often, when we reach the very first layer of tension, there’s a powerful shift - an almost distinctive sense of release - allowing the body to restore its natural harmony.

Parenting is rewarding … but also exhausting.
Between school runs, deadlines and sleepless nights, stress builds up in ways you might not even notice - until your body speaks up.
Body Stress Release (BSR) helps calm your nervous system by gently releasing stored tension so you can show up as the best version of yourself - for your kids and for you.
It only takes 30 minutes once a month.
Release the stress. Restore the balance. Reclaim your calm.

Carrying an infant on the hip can lead to poor posture and potentially cause pain in mothers due to several reasons:
1. Uneven weight distribution: Carrying a baby on one hip can cause the mother's pelvis and spine to tilt unevenly, leading to an abnormal curvature of the lower back (lordosis) or an uneven distribution of weight.
2. Strain on muscles and joints: The constant strain on one side of the body can lead to muscle fatigue and strain on the joints, particularly in the hips, lower back, and shoulders.
3. Pelvic floor strain: Carrying a baby on the hip can also put additional pressure on the pelvic floor muscles, which may lead to strain and discomfort.
4. Postural adaptations: Prolonged hip carrying can lead to postural adaptations, such as leaning to one side or developing an asymmetrical posture, which can cause discomfort, pain, and potentially even long-term musculoskeletal issues.
It's essential for mothers to be aware of their posture and consider using baby carriers or slings that distribute the weight evenly, promoting good posture and reducing the risk of discomfort or pain.

Aches and pains aren’t just “a part of life.”
They’re your body's way of asking for help.
Body Stress Release (BSR) gently locates and releases areas of stored muscle tension and stress that can often lead to back pain, headaches, stiff necks and sore joints.
Whether you’ve been struggling for weeks—or years—BSR can help you move with ease, sleep better and enjoy life without nagging discomfort.
Your body knows how to heal. BSR just helps it get there.
