As we closed the books on Friday, 29 May 2026, Sea Sight Academy took a moment to breathe, laugh, and enjoy the journey we have shared throughout Term 2.
From cosy pyjamas to a relaxing movie day, the laughter and smiles reminded us that school is about more than lessons and exams. It is about friendships, memories, growth, and the moments that bring us together as a family.
The road ahead now leads to examination season. Some learners begin their exams on 2 June, while others start on 11 June. It is a time that will require focus, determination, and hard work. Yet we know that every learner has been preparing for this moment throughout the term.
As we move into this important season, remember that success is not measured only by marks, but also by effort, perseverance, and the courage to keep trying. Believe in yourself, trust what you have learned, and approach each challenge with confidence.
Sea Sight Academy is proud of every learner, every teacher, and every staff member who contributes to making our school a place of learning, encouragement, and excellence.
May this examination period be filled with confidence, wisdom, and success. Keep your goals in sight, work hard, and remember that your future is built one step at a time.
Wishing all our learners the very best for the weeks ahead. You are capable, you are prepared, and you are ready to shine.

I used to think some kids were just badly behaved, disrespectful, or had attitude problems. Then I learned about a University College London study that completely changed my perspective. Researchers compared brain scans of children raised in chaotic, traumatic homes with those of combat veterans returning from war zones. The results were shocking: the same patterns of hypervigilance and survival responses appeared in both.
These children’s brains are not simply “stressed.” They are wired into survival mode. Their nervous systems stay on constant alert, always scanning for danger, conflict, rejection, or the next emotional explosion. What many people label as laziness, defiance, anger, manipulation, or attention-seeking is often a biological response to living in fear for too long.
And the damage goes even deeper when children are constantly dragged into the middle of adult fights, alcohol abuse, physical abuse, emotional neglect, or verbal abuse. When a child grows up hearing screaming, insults, threats, or witnessing violence, their brain stops focusing on learning, growing, and feeling safe. It focuses only on survival.
Many children then search for ways to escape mentally and emotionally. Some disappear into games for hours because it becomes the only place they feel in control. Some draw dark images, demons, monsters, or emotional art because they are trying to express pain they do not know how to explain with words. Others seek attention online or on social media, sometimes in unhealthy ways, because even negative attention can feel safer than feeling invisible at home.
These coping mechanisms are not always healthy, but they are often survival tools created by wounded minds trying to carry more pain than a child should ever have to carry.
This is not about weak character or “bad kids.” This is measurable neurological change caused by environments filled with fear, instability, addiction, fighting, rejection, and unpredictability.
So the question that changed everything for me is this:
How would you treat someone whose brain is functioning like a soldier returning from war?
