The Iris Foundation, formerly Hannah Grace Counselling, is a growing psychology practice in Hillcrest, KwaZulu-Natal. Run by Hannah Grace Tedder (Counselling Psychologist), the Iris Foundation is an organization grounding itself in values of health, family and resilience. A word laden with meaning, “iris” is a word that denotes promise, new life and growth. The Greeks referred to iris as a rainbow

, a symbol of promises, hope and renewal, even through the most harrowing experiences. Anatomically speaking, the iris regulates the light entering the eye, essentially the body’s vehicle to discern real from unreal, truth from lies. The iris is also a bold, bright flower with a strong root system, making it a sturdy, resilient plant. Feel free to reach out to enquire about pricing and availability.

They say your mind is like a train station - thoughts popping in and out all the time.

The reality is that you can’t control every thought that drops into your consciousness, but you get to decide what to do with it.

This is even true for those secret thoughts that terrify you, or disgust you, or those thoughts you’re too scared to say out loud.

Mentally classifying a particular as worrisome or “bad” encodes it as a problem, and makes it more likely to stick around.

Expert psychologist suggest that simply letting the thought just *be* a thought might be the best way to teach your brain to let it go.

Let it was over you. It feels uncomfortable, but that still doesn’t change that it’s a thought - completely harmless.

Thoughts will come, but they will also pass.

Hannah Tedder is a registerd Counselling Psychologist with a diverse range of clinical experience. Her approach to counselling is holistic, family-focused, and systems-informed, recognising that emotional difficulties do not exist in isolation, but are shaped by relationships, environments, life experiences, and patterns that develop over time. Rather than using a one-size-fits-all model, she tailors therapy to each client’s unique context, needs, and goals.

Her work focuses on helping clients understand the underlying patterns that may keep them feeling stuck, overwhelmed, discouraged, or disconnected. Integrating practical skills with deeper therapeutic exploration, Hannah aims to support clients in strengthening emotional regulation, building capacity and resilience, increasing self-understanding, and moving from survival toward thriving.

Hannah works with a range of emotional and psychological challenges, with particular interests in anxiety disorders and OCD, developmental disorders, relationship difficulties, and trauma. She is also currently completing a PhD in psychology, focusing on abandonment in early childhood and its effects across development and the lifespan.

Anxiety’s two best friends are uncertainty and avoidance. We dislike the discomfort of not knowing, which drives us to avoid taking action at the risk of getting it wrong. We relax when we experience that relief we get from avoidance, but it never lasts, does it? Usually, the avoidance of uncertainty fuels anxiety more than it provides relief, triggering more distress the next time you experience the source.

Let’s reframe the drive towards intentional action from perfect action to good enough action.

If you’re avoiding something today, what steps can you take towards implementing a good enough solution?
