Who else feels like the year is running away from us? My gosh, it has been a busy time and I am so happy to finally have time so say a little hello on my page again🫶

I was elated to finally receive my official Australian Physiotherapy and Pilates Insititute certificate which has taken 3 courses in 3 different provinces over the years ~ I can't say that I didn't love every moment of it!

I am now also a Mrs💍 After the most magical, intimate wedding on the 3rd of June. I was so touched by the excitement of my patients for me leading up to the big day.

And so life continues! A little reminder that I am based at Clifton Hill Estate (across the road from Le Domaine) but also offer home visits within the Upper Highway area, as well as to surrounding nursing homes🌼

Wishing everyone a happy week ahead!
xx

Who else is ready to take on the new week?🌿

This weekend my fiancé and I got our heart rate up in a bit of a different way - tandem biking at the beachfront 🚴🏼‍♀️ And we loved it!

Exercising outdoors naturally increases your sun exposure, enhancing vitamin D production 🌤 Vit D not only boosts our immune system function ~ it improves our mood, promotes bone health and acts to reduce inflammation in our bodies 💛

Loved this for a little Monday morning mindfulness to start the week off positively 🧡

ᴄᴀʀᴘᴀʟ ᴛᴜɴɴᴇʟ sʏɴᴅʀᴏᴍᴇ

I've been seeing alot of this lately, so thought I would share a little bit about this condition 🖐🏼

🔸️It usually occurs between the ages of 36 and 50

🔸️It is more common in females

🔸️Most of the time the cause is related to occupation ~ computer-related work is usually the biggest culprit. I also come across it in hairdressers, teachers, beauticians and patients that do alot of knitting/sewing/crocheting

🔸️Carpal tunnel syndrome is essentially compression of the median nerve as it travels through the carpal tunnel at the wrist

🔸️Symptoms include pain, numbness and/or tingling but can vary in terms of where:
~ Thumb
~ Middle finger
~ Index finger
~ Thumb side of the ring finger
~ Symptoms radiating all the way up to the elbow

🔸️Further progression can lead to hand weakness and reduced fine motor control leading to clumsiness

Why you should see your physio ~

🔸️ A thorough assessment is done to rule put any other differential diagnosis

🔸️ Specific tests are done to confirm that is is carpal tunnel syndrome

🔸️ If further investigations are needed, your physio will refer you for an ultrasound scan

🔸️ ᴛʀᴇᴀᴛᴍᴇɴᴛ

~ First and foremost, activity modification to correct the repetitive movement or ergonomic set-up causing compression

~ Manual therapy which will include mobilization of both soft tissue and the median nerve

~ Rehab including appropriate stretches & specific exercises to gently mobilize the median nerve

~ Therapeutic ultrasound to reduce inflammation

~ K-taping to reduce pressure over the carpal tunnel and provide support

~ If needed, referral to an orthotist to have a brace fitted (usually worn at night)

🔸️ Should symptoms be persisting, severe or reoccurring, surgical intervention will involve a carpal tunnel release. It is usually a day procedure and is considered to be 'minor' surgery but is shown to have a high success rate

Happy Friday everyone!

For those of you new to my page ~ hi! I'm Candice🙋🏼‍♀️

I am a physiotherapist based in the Upper Highway area and have been practicing for almost 8 years👐🏻 I love the role I get to play in each of my patient's healing journeys and believe in a wholeistic treatment approach.

I am based at Clifton Hill Estate in Hillcrest (just across the road from Le Domaine) and also offer home visits for both individuals and to nursing homes in Kloof, Gillitts, Winston Park, Hillcrest, Waterfall and Botha's Hill🌿

My special interests include acute musculoskeletal & sport injuries, post operative rehab, hospital acquired weakness, geriatrics, respiratory conditions, neurological conditions and chronic lower back pain🤸🏼‍♀️

I am a qualified clinical Pilates instructor through the Australian Physiotherapy & Pilates Institute and love using these concepts in my treatment approach🤍
