👉🏻 Cholesteatoma is an abnormal skin formation inside the middle ear. It can develop for various reasons, such as repeated ear infections or auditory tube dysfunction - the canal that connects the ear to the back of the nose.
When the Eustachian tube doesn’t work properly, a vacuum is created that “pulls” the eardrum inwards. This movement can form a pocket where dead skin cells accumulate, giving rise to a cholesteatoma.

‼️ And there’s more: simple habits, such as avoiding the use of cotton buds in the ear, help a lot in prevention. Improper use of cotton buds can push wax inwards and cause trauma to the eardrum, favoring infections and changes that increase the risk of developing a cholesteatoma.

Taking care of your ears is essential! At the first sign of repeated infections or hearing loss, seek a specialist. 🙏🏼

Early Arrival = Early action—protect tiny ears from hearing loss

It’s Prematurity Awareness Day and it's a vital time to shine a light on the challenges faced by preterm infants and their families. While we often focus on the many medical hurdles these tiny warriors face in their early days, one aspect that sometimes gets overlooked is hearing loss.

Hearing loss is one of the most common birth defects in premature babies. These babies are also at a higher risk of developing hearing loss due to their underdeveloped organs and exposure to medical treatments.
If left untreated, they may have delayed or limited speech and language development as they age. However, the sooner the hearing loss is diagnosed and treated, the more likely the child will develop better speech and language outcomes.

Early detection through screening and follow-through with diagnostic testing is crucial, as timely intervention can make a world of difference in their development.

Let’s ensure all babies, no matter how early they arrive, have the chance to hear, grow, and reach their full potential.
