New Year, New Chapter! GreenHill Laboratories × Midlands Laboratory

We’re excited to announce that, effective 1 January 2026, GreenHill Laboratories and Midlands Laboratory have united in a strategic merger—bringing together experienced teams and proven processes to deliver an even stronger client experience.

What’s changing (and what’s not):
• Serology expertise continues under the leadership of the Midlands team—now operating as GreenHill’s Serology arm, led by the highly experienced Beverley Williams.
• GreenHill will manage all sample receipting, logistics, and invoicing, creating a single, streamlined pathway from sample submission through to reporting and invoicing.
• Midlands Laboratory clients are now welcomed under GreenHill. Your services continue seamlessly, with the same trusted people and quality—now with unified communications and invoicing.

What clients should do:
• Submit ALL samples to GreenHill only. This ensures faster intake, clear tracking, and consistent turnaround.
• Expect invoices from GreenHill Laboratories. Account terms and service continuity remain intact; our team will guide any administrative updates over the coming months.
• For questions or support, please use GreenHill’s standard channels so we can help you quickly.

Why this matters:
By combining Midlands’ depth in serology with GreenHill’s established expertise across multiple disciplines—including dairy, microbiology, and molecular diagnostics—we’re creating a comprehensive, integrated laboratory service: Midlands clients now benefit from a broader test menu, advanced technologies, and faster turnaround times under one umbrella; GreenHill clients now have direct access to all of Midlands’ serology offerings.
Our unified infrastructure enhances efficiency, reduces complexity, and ensures consistent quality across all diagnostic areas.

This union has been months in the making, and we’re thrilled to begin 2026 with a stronger, more versatile laboratory service for our clients and partners.

Merry Christmas from GreenHill Laboratories!

As another year draws to a close and we take the opportunity to spend time with our loved ones, on behalf of everyone at GreenHill Laboratories, I would like to extend my most sincere gratitude to all our clients and suppliers for their unwavering support during 2025.

This year certainly had its challenges: the bird flu outbreak in Brazil, which severely curtailed meat imports into South Africa, and now the Foot and Mouth Disease outbreak that is threatening the livelihoods of so many dairy farmers. We live and breathe these industry challenges alongside our clients.

On the positive side, GreenHill successfully navigated our 5-year SANAS re-assessment audit and celebrated a record number of successful client audits!

To our valued clients and suppliers – thank you for trusting us and partnering with us through both the highs and the lows. Your confidence in GreenHill is what drives us forward. As we enter the festive season, we wish you a blessed and joyful Christmas with your loved ones, safe travels if you are on the move, rest and rejuvenation if you are on holiday, and a peaceful, prosperous New Year filled with success and happiness.

2025: A year of grit, growth, and gratitude!

From countless audits to onboarding some of the industry’s biggest names, this year has been nothing short of extraordinary. We faced challenges that tested us — bird flu outbreaks, foot & mouth disease — yet our resilience and determination never wavered. We said farewell to valued colleagues, welcomed new talent, and strengthened our team spirit every step of the way.

To celebrate, we gathered for a feast that matched the occasion. A huge shout-out to Howard and Carla at Paisley Gray Café of Hopewell Supplies in Howick for curating a harvest table that was pure perfection — every detail crafted with care, every dish a masterpiece. Your passion for excellence mirrors ours, and we’re so grateful!

Standing with our farmers

Our hearts and solidarity go out to every farmer, family, and worker affected by the current foot and mouth disease virus outbreak. This crisis threatens not only livelihoods but the resilience of an entire industry that feeds nations and sustains communities.

We recognize the immense courage it takes to battle daily uncertainty, protect herds, and uphold food security under such pressure. To all farmers: your perseverance embodies strength and hope.

At GreenHill Laboratories, we are grateful for the support of Ecowize, who have supplied a foot bath at our laboratory to strengthen disinfection control. Their contribution underscores how collaboration across sectors can help safeguard both agricultural and scientific spaces.

Today, we dressed in black and stood in silence.

For 15 minutes, the GreenHill Laboratories team set aside our colours to honour the women of South Africa whose lives were stolen by gender-based violence. In prayer, meditation, and reflection, we remembered them and stood with survivors.

Together with Women For Change and the G20 Women’s Shutdown, we call on government, industry, and society to act with urgency. Gender-based violence must end.

Because a nation without its mothers, sisters, and daughters is unimaginable.

Behind the scenes, we’ve been anything but quiet!

Between financial audits, SANAS assessments, two major client audits, and a string of special projects, our team has been fully immersed in the work that matters most.

But we did manage to sneak in something special:
We sent our Laboratory Administrator, Sydney Fardella, to represent GreenHill Laboratories at the SAAFoST Congress at the CSIR — right in the middle of our SANAS assessment!

Sydney connected with suppliers, met current clients, and introduced GreenHill to new faces in the food science community. Thank you, Sydney, for flying the GreenHill flag with such professionalism and energy!

Just under five years ago, our 7-person team faced our first SANAS assessment in the midst of a global pandemic.

Last week, with a 30-strong team and five years of growth behind us, we welcomed SANAS back for our re-accreditation assessment. Four expert assessors spent three full days reviewing every detail of our management system and technical competencies.
