This year the PEACE programme partnered with Alexandra High School to pilot an after school career guidance programme for Grade 9 students.
The programme is free for Grade 9 students and will take place over 6 months. Each month various career fields are explored such as Life Sciences, Humanities, Health Sciences, Information Technology, Engineering and so much more.
Students are introduced to various careers in each field from professionals themselves whether via short videos or in person presentations.
The aim of the programme is for students to explore careers and subjects required to study these careers. Educating students on various careers enhances their career maturity (the degree to which individuals are prepared to make good educational or vocational decisions).
Through this programme students will be able to make good choices when it comes to their subject choice decision making in Grade 9. Furthermore, they will also have knowledge on how to plan towards their future career.
Last week we introduced the career field of Life Sciences to students. We explored careers such as ecologist, botanist, microbiologist, zoologist, marine biologist, medical scientist, environmentalist, food technologist and so much more.
Below are some pictures of the Life Sciences session with Grade 9 students at Alexandra High School.
