"If you find yourself wondering what “to do” with inner disturbance, I’d like to invite you to stop right there.
To literally pause that thought.
That kind of thinking is rooted in a longing to remove the discomfort, which means it’s part of the very pattern that keeps the pain locked in place. In other words, healing is not about doing. There’s nothing you can DO to heal. In fact, healing is more of an undoing than a doing.
To the proactive mind this may seem illogical. To the part of you that insists on fixing, changing, and controlling your experience, this will seem insane.
"How can "doing nothing" promote healing?! If I don’t do anything then nothing will change!!"
However, what if "doing nothing" is not what it seems. What if "doing nothing" is actually a deep invitation into a potent cauldron of transformation?
The truth is, that you have nothing to lose. If your current attempts to fix your experience aren’t working, then I invite you to stop.
Just. Stop.
Pause .... and breathe.
The truth is, that when you’re constantly trying to figure out how to fix your experience you’re resisting it, which means that you’re closing, and healing can only happen when you’re open.
As an open field of consciousness, you provide the space where healing can take place. It’s not so much that you’re doing anything as it is that you’re no longer closing.
As you cease to close and contract around the places that are hard to hold, you become the space where these tight places can finally unwind. They might not relax straight away. In fact, they might even tighten at first! After all, they’ve received a lifetime of resistance, avoidance, and denial. Yet slowly but surely, like flowers ready to bloom, they will open and unfurl in the tender open space that you provide.
This approach may seem counter-intuitive at first. It flies in the face of band-aids, quick fixes, and magic pills. It requires patience, consistent application, and the willingness to open - over and over again.
And yet, what you’ll discover is that the end of pain isn’t actually what you were seeking. It was the deep peace that fills your Being when you stop resisting it.
Indeed, it was this loss of contact with your Essential Nature that created the wound in the first place, and it’s the reunion with it that will heal it, without you "doing" a thing ..."
