Man, 43, Shot in Early-Morning Incident in Adelaide; 58-Year-Old Suspect to Appear in Court

Adelaide, Eastern Cape — Police are investigating a case of attempted murder following a shooting incident that occurred in the early hours of Monday morning on Queen Street in Adelaide.

According to police spokesperson Lt Col Siphokazi Mawisa, officers were summoned to the scene at approximately 03:40 on 23 February 2026. Upon arrival, police found a 43-year-old man who had sustained a gunshot wound.

He was transported to hospital for medical treatment.

Family members confirmed that the victim was born on 1 December 1983 and remains in hospital. He has a bullet lodged in his stomach and a broken arm, and is currently being treated at Adelaide Hospital while awaiting transfer to East London for further care. No surgery has been performed at this stage.

Police confirmed that the firearm used in the incident was confiscated.

A 58-year-old suspect has been arrested and is expected to appear before the Adelaide Magistrate’s Court soon on a charge of attempted murder.

“The circumstances surrounding the incident form part of the ongoing investigation,” said Lt Col Mawisa.

Earlier information from the family indicates that the incident followed a dispute over loud music at a local accommodation establishment. According to relatives, the victim had approached another tenant to request that the volume be lowered before shots were fired.

Authorities have not yet released further details as investigations continue.
