On 26 December, while preparing for our team in De Aar, our work phone was accidentally dropped, resulting in a damaged screen 📱💥. Although the screen was repaired, it unfortunately became unresponsive to touch, as shown in the attached video.

Due to this unforeseen technical issue, we were temporarily unable to:

- Respond to messages 💬
- Share links with clients whose content was already ready 🔗

Due to the heavy rains, an OurNews team en route to De Aar, Northern Cape experienced a minor accident in which the car skidded and damaged two tires. This incident occurred in the early hours of today.

Unfortunately, during the rescue operation, our work phone was dropped, resulting in a damaged screen, but it has since been repaired. The rescue efforts have impacted our operations for today; however, we can confirm that all our teams are now en route to their assigned destinations.

We apologize for any inconvenience caused to all the affected families.

KwaMaqoma Residents Allege Security Guards Pointed Guns at Them

Residents of KwaMaqoma are speaking out after alleging that security guards from the Boipelo Intervention Unit pointed rifles at them without provocation on December 18, 2025. The incident occurred while the men were parked outside Total Garage.

According to eyewitnesses, the security guards approached the vehicle and asked "ikhona inkinga?" ("is there a problem?"), to which the men replied "hay ayikho" ("no, there isn't"). The residents have since opened a case at the KwaMaqoma Police Station.

The Boipelo Intervention Unit is responsible for guarding Intercape buses in the area, following tensions with local taxi associations.

The police are currently inspecting the fi****ms of the security guards involved. The Boipelo Intervention Unit has declined to comment on the matter, requesting CCTV footage of the incident.

The investigation is ongoing.
