✨Happy World Animal Day!✨

Today serves as a global reminder that animals—whether companion, farm, or wild—deserve care, protection, and respect.

At our practice, we’re committed to advocating for animal welfare and promoting responsible care every day. On this World Animal Day, we encourage everyone to reflect on the role animals play in our lives and our responsibility to ensure their well-being.

Together, we can work towards a more compassionate and humane world for all species.💫 🌍

This sweet bunny came in recently for treatment after developing fly strike — a serious condition that every rabbit owner should be aware of.

🐇 What is Fly Strike? 🪰
Fly strike (or myiasis) happens when flies lay eggs on soiled or damp fur. When the eggs hatch, the larvae (maggots) can burrow into the skin, causing pain and infection. It’s a medical emergency and needs immediate veterinary care.

💡 What to Watch For:
🪰 Damp or dirty fur around the back end
🪰 Lethargy or hiding more than usual
🪰 Reduced appetite
🪰 Tiny maggots visible in the fur

🧼 Regular grooming, keeping your bunny’s living space clean and dry, and checking them daily — especially during warm weather — are the best ways to prevent this condition.

Thanks to quick action and lots of TLC, White Rabbit is now feeling much better and hopping happily again! 💛

🐾 Did you know?

That tiny vertical groove between a dog’s nose and upper lip has a purpose!

It’s called the philtrum (sometimes called the “vegetal groove”), and it helps keep your pup’s nose damp.

Here’s how: every time a dog licks its lips, saliva gathers in the groove. Through a process called capillarization, the moisture travels up to the nose — keeping it wet.

And why does that matter? Because a moist nose is much better at capturing and holding scents from the air. That’s part of what makes a dog’s sense of smell so incredibly powerful!

Today we celebrate the incredible work of Animal Health Technicians (AHTs) – like our very own Abi 💙

AHTs are the unsung heroes of veterinary medicine, bridging the gap between science and hands-on care. Their work is diverse and vital:
✅ Administering treatments, vaccinations & primary healthcare
✅ Supporting veterinarians in daily practice
✅ Assisting with disease surveillance, biosecurity & specimen collection
✅ Performing routine procedures & ensuring accurate animal ID & traceability

In short – they’re at the frontline of keeping animals (and communities!) healthy, safe, and thriving. 🐕🐄🐑🐾

We’re so proud of Abi and every AHT who dedicates their passion and skill to this work. 💚

This tiny baby bunny had quite an adventure - she was “delivered” to her new mom by the family cat — thankfully in one piece!

She popped in for her first vet check-up, flea treatment, cuddles with our vet tech Abi…and a gender reveal (it’s a girl!).

This is Jazz. She came in recently because her owner noticed a large lump near the base of her tail. Our vets took a sample to find out exactly what it was.

👉 Not all lumps are dangerous, but it’s important to check them early. Some are harmless fatty growths, while others may need treatment. The only way to know for sure is to have them examined.

✨ September Special ✨
Bring your pet in to have up to 3 lumps checked for a very special rate.

A quick, simple test can give you peace of mind — and if there’s something more serious, catching it early makes all the difference.
