Two Missing Young Girls Found Barely Alive in Howick

Yesterday afternoon, at around 5pm, our teams received a distress call from a Greendales resident. The resident reported that two girls who had previously gone missing were found abandoned on the roadside, barely conscious.

Our teams arrived at the scene to find two teenage girls semi-conscious. Further investigations will reveal the nature of incident, as it initially appears they were drugged and abused - however this cannot be confirmed.

It is believed the teens were reported missing to Taylor's Halt police earlier this month.

Both were stabilised and transported to hospital for urgent medical attention.

Our teams visited Hilton Pre-Primary yesterday to conduct a show-and-tell for the little ones. They learnt so much about the lifesaving equipment we use everyday and had a chance to explore our ambulance.

The importance of first aid training in the workplace cannot be overstated. Accidents and medical emergencies can happen at any time, and having employees who are trained in basic first aid can make the difference between a minor incident and a major catastrophe.

At St Michael's Ambulance Service, our approach to first aid training is rooted in our commitment to service excellence, diligence, honesty, and integrity. As a certified provider of first aid training, we offer a curriculum that goes above and beyond legal necessities. Each training session is conducted by professionals who are experts in their field, offering both theoretical knowledge and practical experience to ensure a well-rounded understanding of first aid principles.

We have two sessions available this month with limited spaces available. Find out more below and enquire today.

We had the privilege of participating in Start Smart Academy Midlands' show-and-tell today, where pupils got to learn more about our jobs in the medical services industry.

They got a tour of our ambulance and learned all about the equipment we use.

We're sure we inspired a few budding medics today😄.

We spent the morning with the little ones at Heritage Preschool in Howick yesterday, teaching them all about basic safety and doing a show-and-tell with all the lifesaving equipment we use everyday.

We're sure we created some memorable experiences, with the young pupils really excited to explore the ambulance, asking so many questions about the different equipment we use.

And our teams really treasured this experience as well!😊

We were back at Howick West Primary school yesterday with our partners at Mi7 National Group 😀.

We carried their education and awareness initiative with pupils who weren't present for the first session at the school. In these sessions, we conduct anti-bullying, anti-drug, and basic first aid seminars at schools and universities in Pietermaritzburg.

They also had a chance to interact with some of the lifesaving equipment we use everyday in our ambulances.

Well done, Howick West!

It's so great to get positive feedback from our communities - it keeps our teams motivated and inspired to do their best everyday.

Here's a letter we received this week, with names redacted to ensure their privacy.

Dear Sir/Madam,

I wish to express my appreciation and gratitude for the excellent attention I received from two of your staff members yesterday, being Karlin and Louann.

I was admitted to Lenmed Hospital for a series of tests and scans and needed to be taken to Midlands Clinic in Pietermaritzburg for a further procedure. Before I left the Lenmed I had been on a IV drip ordered by my Dr and unfortunately had an allergic reaction causing me to need oxygen.

Your staff would not move me until my oxygen levels were back to normal and showed so much care towards me in Howick and Pietermaritzburg.

I am truly grateful for the attention.

The Saints Story

St Michael’s Ambulance Service officially opened on the 15th of September 2017. We are a private ambulance service based in Howick, Kwa-Zulu Natal. We pride ourselves in professional, ethical and compassionate service. We are proud members of the South African Private Ambulance Emergency Services Association (SAPAESA). We are a team of 9 members who all play important roles in the running of St Michael’s.

We are contracted to all medical aids, IOD (injury on duty), RAF (road accident fund) and offer competitive rates for private patients. We are contracted to provide medical services to The Greater Ambers and the HADCA homes in Howick. We are designated service providers for ER24, Netcare 911 and Europassist (including GEMS). We also provide emergency medical response to Aliwal Security clients in Hilton, Merrivale and Howick.

We volunteer our services to our local parkrun every Saturday. We also visit Khazimula Children’s home once a month to do medical checks on all the children.
