Dr Maritz is well known in the Kouga area and brings with her over 30 years’ experience as a Family General Practitioner. We are delighted to welcome her to the KliniDoc family (even if it's just for a week) and know our patients will be in excellent hands during this period.

𝗠𝗶𝗻𝗼𝗿 𝗯𝘂𝗿𝗻 𝗮𝘁 𝗵𝗼𝗺𝗲? Here’s what to do 🔥

If you or a loved one sustains a minor burn, quick and correct first aid can make all the difference:

* Cool the burn under cool running water for 20 minutes
* Do not apply ice, butter or toothpaste
* Gently remove tight items like rings or watches
* If you have Hydrogel available in your first aid kit - it helps prevent infection and the high water content in the gel promotes rapid cooling resulting in minimising skin damage.
* Cover with a clean, non-stick dressing
* Take pain relief if needed

⚠️ Seek medical care if the burn is large, blistering, infected, or involves the face, hands, feet, or ge****ls.

🩺 Must have malpractice insurance

🌊 Bluebottle sting? Here’s what to do:

Despite the myth, urine and fresh water can make a bluebottle sting worse. ✅

What to do instead:
* Get out of the water and rest
* Do not rub the area
* Gently rinse the sting with seawater to remove remaining tentacles
* Apply hot water (as warm as you can comfortably tolerate) — heat helps relieve pain and can deactivate the venom proteins

🚑 Seek medical attention if pain persists, or if the sting is on the face, neck, or throat. In an emergency, dial 112 from a mobile phone in South Africa.

⚠️ Prevention is best: avoid swimming when warning signs are up or when bluebottles are visible on the beach.
