Communication is so much more than just words 💬

Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) supports individuals with a variety of communication needs by providing different ways to express themselves.

✨ Augmentative communication adds to spoken language, like facial expressions, gestures, body language, and key word signs.

✨ Alternative communication is used when speech is limited or not functional, offering other ways to communicate, such as communication books, apps, or speech-generating devices.

Speech therapists help match each individual with the AAC system that best suits their needs 🤍

✨ AAC can be:
• Unaided – no tools needed (e.g. gestures, facial expressions)
• Aided – using tools or devices (e.g. books, tablets, apps)

Did you know your child learns more language from what you SAY than from what you ASK?💡💬

Instead of testing with lots of questions, try commenting on what they see, do, or play with. This gives them the words they need to understand and eventually use themselves.
