I am a WOMBS (Women Offering Mothers Birth Support) Certified Doula and I practice in the Jeffreys Bay area in the Eastern Cape. My aim is to educate women about their choices regarding labour and birth and to help them to have the best possible outcome for their given situation. Women need to realise the power that we have as women, from within, to conquer any obstacle that lies in front of us. A
vast majority of medical professionals will try to convince you to have unnecessary interventions that will rob you of your positive birthing experience that you deserve. I believe that a pregnant woman should do her own research, decide what is best for her and gather a birthing team that shares her views regarding childbirth. I believe this is where a doula plays a vital role to ensure that the birthing woman is treated as an individual and to help her each step of the way. As this is a marathon and not a sprint, we will take each contraction as it comes and work through it, until the next one and until you hold your precious baby in your arms for the first time. Having a doula at your birth, will create a safe and calm space for you and your partner where your wishes will be respected.
