Your face holds powerful reflex points connected throughout the body.

By working gently on these tiny areas, facial reflexology encourages deep relaxation, balance, and a beautiful sense of wellbeing.

Sometimes the smallest points create the biggest shifts.

Women’s health is one of the areas where reflexology can be incredibly supportive. Sharing an interesting early study below.

# REFLEXOLOGY PILOT STUDY

In 1989-1990, I was involved in a pilot study to determine the efficacy of reflexology in treating dysmenorrhea.
The results were very positive, as evidenced by the quote. It was during this time that I realised the value of being able to locate and interpret the various types of reflex textures. It was through this study that the techniques of A.R.T. originated.
Some interesting factors were noted, including an increase in endometrial circulation.

‘In the management of chronic pelvic pain, reflexology is an invaluable and often essential tool.

The evidence would suggest that for the treatment of common menstrual pain, reflexology is the best, non-invasive, drug-free treatment.

Positive moments…… Connection with loved ones, celebrating achievements, laughing together.

These things calm the nervous system & support overall wellbeing.

Sometimes wellness isn’t complicated - it’s simply allowing yourself to enjoy the good moments.

Happy Friday Peeps…..see you next week!

Ever wondered what that hard skin on the ball of your foot might be telling you?

In reflexology, the ball of the foot corresponds with the thyroid reflex area. When reflexologists notice hardness or callous in this region, it can sometimes indicate that this area of the body may benefit from a little extra attention.

Reflexology does not diagnose or treat medical conditions, but by working reflex points on the feet we encourage the body to relax and return to balance.

And relaxation matters — because stress is one of the biggest disruptors of healthy thyroid function.

Sometimes the body simply needs the space to reset. 🌿

Anxiety isn’t just “in your head”—it’s in your nervous system. 🧠✨

A new 2024 review in the Medical Research Archives confirms that Grounding (Earthing) is a powerful physiological reset. By simply connecting your feet to the Earth, research shows you can:

✅ Balance your Nervous System (Shift from “Stress” to “Rest”)
✅ Lower Muscle Tension almost instantly
✅ Calm Brainwave Patterns for better focus and sleep

The J-Bay Advantage 🌊
Walking on our wet sea sand is “supercharged” grounding. Because saltwater is highly conductive, it acts as a highway for electrons to enter the body and neutralize stress.

👣 At the beach: You recharge your biological battery.
🧖‍♀️ In my practice: We clear the “circuitry” through Reflexology to remove the blockages keeping you stuck in stress mode.

Grounding is a perfect supportive practice to use alongside professional care. Ready to shift into recovery mode?

Have you had your “Vitamin G” today? 🦶🌊

Reflexology on the Global Stage! 🌍🔬

For everyone who asks about the "how" and "why" behind reflexology—this is for you. This research uses advanced brain imaging to map the neural connection between the feet and the brain. Truly groundbreaking work being presented at the ISMRM in Cape Town this May. Check out the details from the IIR below! 👇

On 12 May 2026, reflexology research will be presented on a global scientific stage.

Dr. Stefan Posse, lead investigator of the Neural Pathways of Applied Reflexology study, has been invited to give an oral presentation of preliminary findings at the International Society of Magnetic Resonance in Medicine Annual Meeting & Exhibition in Cape Town - a conference attended by 6,000–8,000 neuroscientists and medical professionals from around the world.

For reflexology research, this represents an important step in visibility within the wider medical and neuroscience community.

The study has already completed three rounds of brain imaging and has attracted interest from reflexologists in 94 countries. Ongoing funding is in place to continue research with healthy participants at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine, with plans to expand the work to include stroke patients at the University of Minnesota School of Medicine.

The research team includes Barbara Kunz, Kevin Kunz, Dr. Posse, Essa Yacoub, and Ann van de Winckel.

Those who wish to learn more about the research, or support its next phase, can find further details via the Neural Pathways of Applied Reflexology Fund at the University of New Mexico:

This presentation marks an encouraging moment for reflexology research as it continues to be explored through rigorous scientific methods.

Happy Lunar New Year🧧

Forward movement doesn’t always mean pushing harder — sometimes it means pausing, resetting and letting the body rebalance.

Reflexology supports that flow beautifully.

🐎 Welcoming the Year of the Horse – Movement, Vitality & Balance 🧧

As we celebrate the Chinese New Year and enter the Year of the Horse, we step into a cycle associated with energy, freedom, motivation and forward movement.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine philosophy, the Horse reflects the dynamic expression of Yang energy — active, warm and outward-moving. It reminds us that health is not static: it is rhythm, circulation and flow.

Reflexology mirrors this principle beautifully.

When we work the feet, we are not simply relaxing muscles — we are encouraging communication throughout the body. Stimulation of reflex points helps support circulation, calm the nervous system and restore internal balance, allowing energy to move smoothly rather than becoming stuck.

The Year of the Horse therefore invites us to ask:

✨ Where do I feel stagnant?
✨ Where do I feel exhausted instead of energised?
✨ What needs movement — physically or emotionally?

Sometimes the most powerful step forward is to pause, rebalance and allow the body to reset.

Just as the Horse symbolises strength guided by sensitivity, reflexology combines gentle touch with profound systemic effect — helping the body regain its natural pace.

May this new lunar year bring you lightness in your step, clarity in your mind, and harmony in your body.

Happy Lunar New Year 🧧

Sleep is foundational to healing — physically, emotionally and hormonally.

A 2021 research review of 42 clinical trials (3,928 adults) found that foot reflexology significantly improved sleep quality and reduced sleep disturbances compared to control groups.

As a gentle, non-invasive therapy, reflexology helps calm the nervous system — and when the nervous system feels safe, the body can finally rest.

If your sleep has been feeling unsettled lately, this may be something worth exploring.

When I say “she’s about to feel so much better”
I’m working the pituitary reflex — often called the body’s “master gland,” supporting hormonal communication and overall balance.

Gentle reflexology helps encourage relaxation, nervous system support and the body’s natural return to homeostasis — which is why clients often leave feeling calmer and more settled.

Reflexology supports balance naturally and doesn’t diagnose or treat conditions .

Professional insight from the Allied Health Professions Council of South Africa on the role of Therapeutic Reflexology in supportive, holistic care.

Therapeutic Reflexology is a complementary health profession that supports the body’s physical, emotional and mental wellbeing.

By applying specific techniques to reflex points on the feet, face, ears, or body, Therapeutic Reflexology is commonly used as supportive care in the management of chronic disease and long-term health conditions. It may assist with stress reduction, circulation support, pain management, and overall well-being, all of which play an important role in disease prevention and long-term health maintenance.

Therapeutic Reflexology does not replace medical treatment, but may form part of a preventative, patient-centred approach to health when used alongside conventional healthcare.

For safe and ethical care, always consult a practitioner registered with the Allied Health Professions Council of South Africa.
