On this Heritage Day, we celebrate the traditions, values, and roots that shape who we are. Just like our cultural heritage connects us to our past, understanding and caring for women’s health connects us to a stronger, healthier future. 💛

At MYOBGYN, we honour every woman’s journey, from adolescence to motherhood and beyond. Today, we celebrate the heritage of resilience, strength, and care passed down through generations.

Happy Heritage Day, South Africa! 🇿🇦

Visiting a newborn is such a special moment, but it comes with a few golden rules to make the experience safe and supportive for both baby and mama:

💛Keep your visit short and sweet
💛Always message first, never arrive unannounced
💛Don’t visit if you’re feeling unwell
💛Wash your hands as soon as you arrive
💛Be supportive, mama knows best
💛Bring calm, positive energy

Little ones thrive on peace, protection, and love. 💕

Feeling exhausted during pregnancy is completely normal, your body is working overtime to grow new life. Fatigue is most common in the first trimester, often eases up in the second, and can return in the third trimester as your body carries more weight and prepares for birth.

💤Why it happens:
👉Hormonal changes (especially progesterone)
👉Increased blood production
👉Emotional and physical adjustments
👉Carrying extra weight and interrupted sleep

✨ Tips to cope:
👉Prioritise rest and naps when possible
👉Eat balanced meals and stay hydrated
👉Gentle exercise (like walking or prenatal yoga)
👉Ask for support, you don’t need to do it all

Your body is doing something incredible, go easy on yourself. Fatigue is your body’s way of asking for rest.

Every birth story is unique, and so is the length of labour. Some labours are quick and intense, others are slow and steady. Here’s what can influence how long it takes:

💫1st vs 2nd (or more) baby: First-time labours are often longer.
🧬Genetics & anatomy: Your body, pelvis shape, and even family history can play a role.
🤱Baby’s position: A baby facing head-down can help labour progress more smoothly.
🏃‍♀️Movement & mindset: Walking, breathing, and staying calm can all support your body’s rhythm.
⏱️Induced vs spontaneous labour: Induction can sometimes lead to a longer process.

However long it takes, your pace is the right pace. 💛
Your birth, your journey, your strength.

✈️ Travelling while pregnant? Here’s what to know

In most healthy pregnancies, flying is generally safe up until 34 weeks, but it’s always best to check with your doctor first.

When flying may not be advised:
• If you’re at risk of preterm labour
• Have certain complications (like placenta previa or high blood pressure)
• Are carrying multiples past 32–34 weeks
• Or have been advised to avoid long periods of sitting

Pro tip: Stay hydrated, stretch your legs often, and always wear your seatbelt under your bump.

If you’re planning a trip, let’s chat first, your safety (and baby’s) always comes first. 💛

Let’s Talk About Ectopic Pregnancy 💛

An ectopic pregnancy happens when a fertilised egg implants outside the uterus, most commonly in the fallopian tube. Unfortunately, it’s not a pregnancy that can progress, and it can be life-threatening if left untreated.

⚠️ Symptoms to watch for:
• Sharp or one-sided pelvic pain
• Vaginal bleeding
• Shoulder tip pain
• Dizziness or fainting

Ectopic pregnancies are rare but serious, and early detection is key. If you’re newly pregnant and experiencing any of these symptoms, please seek medical attention right away.
