Dear Clients,
Thank you for another fulfilling year together.
As you reflect on 2023, please give yourselves permission to have downtime, time to do nothing. Defending your right to such time takes courage, conviction and resiliency. Such time, space and quiet will strike our family and friends as a withdrawal from them. It is! Withdrawal is necessary though- especially during the festive season.
Embrace creative solitude; you require the healing of time alone. Without this period of recharging, you are basically on a treadmill of virtuous production and you are caught in a virtue trap. By this I mean that we may consider others before ourselves. This is the season of giving but let’s challenge ourselves to say yes to ourselves a little more!
Here is a little ‘virtue-trap quiz’ to help you determine whether your life is serving YOU or only others, taken from Julia Cameron’s ‘The Artist’s Way’ (a worthwhile read):
1. The biggest lack in my life is…
2. The greatest joy in my life is…
3. My largest time commitment is…
4. As I play more,I work…
5. I feel guilty that I am…
6. I worry that…
7. If my dreams come true, my family will…
8. I sabotage myself so people will…
9. If I let myself feel it…
10. One reason I get sad sometimes is…
Then, list 10 things you’d love to do but don’t allow yourself to do. So often, the mere act of writing out your forbidden joys breaks down the barriers to doing them! Put this list somewhere visible 😁
Let’s embrace our gift of creativity this festive season and avoid the virtue trap as much as possible. 🎄
