Let’s Talk About Organ Donation:
Breaking Myths, Saving Lives
We understand—talking about organ donation can feel uncomfortable. In many of our communities, there are beliefs and traditions around keeping the body whole, fears about what happens after we pass, and mistrust of the healthcare system. These are real feelings, shaped by history, culture, and experience.
But here’s the truth: organ donation is an act of Ubuntu — “I am because we are.”
By choosing to be a donor, you are choosing to give life, to help another mother, father, sister, brother, or child live to see another day.
A few important facts:
Your body is treated with the utmost respect during and after donation.
Donation does not affect traditional funeral arrangements.
It is a selfless gift that can save up to 7 lives and improve many more through tissue donation.
Decisions about donation are only made after all life-saving efforts have failed — it is never about giving up on you.
Let’s open the conversation — with our families, elders, faith leaders, and communities — so we can make informed choices.
Organ donation is not about losing something… it’s about giving the most powerful gift anyone can give: the gift of life.
Ubuntu in action: I live because you cared.
