I'd say dreams come true, but truthfully- the young boy, born from humble beginnings could never even have dreamed of this: 1st place at the AO Young Faculty Seminar and being invited to join the International Faculty in Davos, Switzerland, next year.

It was one of my greatest honours to be selected to represent South Africa (and Africa) at this event, featuring over 20 countries from across Europe and Southern Africa.

Winning was more than a title- it was meeting some of the brightest and most talented young Orthopaedic Surgeons in the world, and the experienced and incredible Faculty mentors. We were colleagues, who became friends. Friends, who are now a community sharing knowledge, sharing perspectives, sharing our humanity and a hope for a bright future. This was the greatest prize anyone could receive.

WHO IS DR TAPS?

Dr Tapeshwar Ajodha, affectionately known as Dr Taps, is a Specialist Orthopaedic Surgeon who has advanced training in Arthroplasty (joint replacements) from the largest hospital in the Southern Hemisphere.

In 2023, he became the youngest Orthopaedic Surgeon in the country to be invited as a Faculty lecturer for the AO- which is the largest international orthopaedic association in the world, based in Switzerland.

He qualified as a medical doctor from the University of the Witwatersrand in 2012 (MBBCh). Achieving a distinction for his research dissertation, he also obtained a Masters in Orthopaedic Surgery from the University of the Witwatersrand- which was presented at the S.A. Arthroplasty Society Congress to an international audience (MMed).

Dr Taps Ajodha is a member of the Colleges of Medicine of South Africa, where he successfully attained a Fellowship in the College of Orthopaedic Surgeons (FC Orth).

He is a Certified Independent Medical Examiner for the American Medical Association (CIME).

Dr Taps Ajodha was awarded the teaching and academic excellence award for training specialists by the Wits Orthopaedic Surgery Department in 2022.

He is rounded by invaluable experience in trauma, paediatric surgery, ICU, medical aviation and over a dozen post-graduate courses. His diverse knowledge base is exemplified by him being one of the few surgeons in the country to have passed both the Orthopaedic and General Surgery CMSA Intermediate exams at first attempts.
