We are THRILLED to welcome Dr Charissa Stannard to our practice! Dr Charissa graduated from Wits in 2017 before completing her two year internship at Job Shimankana Tabane Hospital in Rustenburg, and community service year at Bertha Gxowa Hospital in Germiston, where, as a medical officer, she was placed in the Paediatric department. It was here that her deep love for caring for children and babies flourished.

As a young, motivated doctor with a passion for holistic medicine and child health, Charissa believes “health” is a broad concept based on intricate connections between physical and mental well being, genetic factors, and our environments. She is looking forward to establishing meaningful relationships with her patients and addressing all aspects of their health.

When she's not working, Charissa dedicates as much time as possible to her family, being in nature and listening to good music.

Chiropractic is defined in Greek as "done by hand" stemming from Greek definition; "chiro" meaning hand and "practic" meaning practice and has become the third largest primary health care profession worldwide. Chiropractic is a health profession which is focused on the neuro-muscular-skeletal system in terms of obtaining a diagnosis, providing treatment and aiding prevention. Therefore, the chiropractor focuses on the functioning of your spine and extremities, the associated/surrounding muscles and the nerves involved.
The chiropractor evaluates the biomechanical structure of the spine to detect any restricted movement between each vertebral segment. Fixation of a joint segment can lead to irritation of the joint itself, the surrounding muscles and/or the spinal nerve root - Chiropractic Association of South Africa.
