Feeling lost can be a beautiful opportunity given to you by life to press pause and regroup within yourself.
This feeling happens to many of us at different times in our lives, and sometimes its triggered by life events; like big life changes(moving), loss of a loved one(death or separation), health issues, major setbacks(losing a job, business issues), lack of a support system(feeling isolated and lonely), societal pressure(disconnect between what you want and what society wants you to want), or even suppressed emotions.
But it is important to know that it is a feeling and we can move through this and come out the other side having grown and feeling more purposeful.
It's important to not sink into this feeling but rather allow yourself to move through it slowly. Here are some things you can do daily to help you find your way back to yourself:
- Be apart of a community or friendship that makes you feel good and where you can talk about how you feel.
- Eat a healthier, more wholesome diet - adopt sober habits
- Be physical - go for a walk around the block, do some stretches or join a fitness program that interests you
- Do something you love - that hobby that you used to have or the hikes you used to go on, do that again and be curious about why that activity makes you feel happy.
- Take time to visualise the life you want for yourself - sometimes when we feel lost its because we are actually unclear about what we want and so we have no direction to move towards, there is nothing driving decisions.
- Take stock regularly - sit with yourself for 5-10 minutes and look at your week or month and what you've achieved during that time, what wins did you have, what made you happy. This is meant to be smaller daily wins all the way to bigger achievements.
If you find it difficult to get yourself to do any of the above, it's important to see a mental health professional. Feeling lost can sometimes cause depression and anxiety, so it's important to know when to seek professional help.
As I mentioned, this is just a growing opportunity. It's hard to see it like that when you in the thick of it but I have been there(probably more than once in my life) and on the other side I always recognise growth within myself. You will get through this!
