When I decided to go into private practice 10 years ago, I had no idea what a journey it would be. It has been filled with humbling moments, times of learning, and, most of all, countless opportunities to learn from the patients I’ve had the privilege of working with. I want to thank every single patient — you are the experts. Together, we write new stories.
On the 7th of October 2025, I was invited as a guest on Goeie More/Good Morning on Via TV. I followed a conversation the presenter had with Pippa Van Onselen What made it even more special was that it coincided with my 10th anniversary in private practice.

Yes, IBD is a bowel disease. But it impacts so much more than that. Depending on what medications your on, there are side-effects that can be worse than the disease itself. There are also many symptoms of illness that don't impact your gut. Sometimes, a picture can speak louder than words!

Pierre

The past can teach...

It has been a long time since I’ve posted something…
The end of the year came and gone, and even the 1st of January 2022 is also something of the past.
What has become a habit of mine, at the end of each year, is to evaluate the past year and try and learn from it. The most important is not to criticize yourself, but to ask how you can use the knowledge you have gained, to assist in becoming a better you. One of the biggest lessons I have taken from 2021, is to be careful to compare oneself to others. You know very little of their story, even if you think you know it all. Everyone is unique. Personally, I believe we can learn from each other, but never try and be someone else or compare yourself to another.
As a specialized social worker, 2021, and especially Covid-19, taught me to think outside the box, stand up for what I believe in and what I can offer my patients. What has 2021 taught you?
Until next time…
Pierre
